English, Late Victorian, c.1880 Large centrepiece: height 19.5cm, width 28cm, depth 20cm Case: height 37.5cm, width 51cm, depth 50cm Crafted in parcel-gilt and electroplated silver, this stunning epergnes suite was made by the leading English firm Elkington & Co. in late Victorian London. The pieces are crafted in a magnificent Egyptian Revival style, most evident from the stunning sphinx mounts on the main pieces. The suite is comprised of a pair of large oval shaped epergnes that consist of leaf mounts, pierced and mounted with pairs of sphinxes that support cut-glass bowls. The suite also comprises a set of four taller circular epergnes, that have similar sphinx mounts in trios, and which stand upon triangular bases, with beaded borders, chains, and paw feet, supporting a set of four bowls...
