Flush Mount by Oluce, Italy, 1950s This flush mount ceiling light by Oluce, circa 1950s, reflects the manufacturer's conviction that light was the true architect of interior space – a spatial tool used as much to shape a room's mood as to illuminate it. Executed in ivory lacquered metal with a brass mounting stem and joints, the fixture sits close to the ceiling, its elongated oval reflector concealing a small brass bowl diffuser at its center. A line, a circle, a beam of light – the design distills illumination to its essential geometry, letting the interplay of surface and shadow do the work of ornament. The visible joint at the stem allows for subtle adjustment, a quiet mechanical detail within an otherwise restrained composition. Founded in Milan in 1945, Oluce built its reputation on exactly this kind of formal economy, treating each fixture less as a functional accessory than as a small architectural gesture – an object for articulating volume and choreographing light within a room. Though this particular model's designer remains unattributed, its pared-down geometry and "weightless" quality sit firmly within the design language the company became known for, and align it with the broader current of postwar Italian lighting that continues to define mid-century design today. Rewired for U.S. standards, the fixture accommodates one E26 socket. We recommend a maximum of 60W bulb or LED equivalent. Sold and priced individually.
