Georges Pelletier (1938) is a great contemporary artist exploring the fields of ceramics and lighting, since the 1950s.
Born in Brusels in 1938. At the tender age of 12 he enrolls in the École du Pioulier, founded by Célestin Freinet and located in Vence in the South of France. Here he learns free and modern art and discovers drawing and ceramics. During this period Pelletier starts showing solidarity and relief based on the principle of equality. This formation lends him a unique artistic identity.
Georges Pelletier arrives to Paris in 1953 and continues with his drawing studies at l’Académie Charpentier meanwhile he still frequents Fernand Léger’s workshop. Important to avoid any confusion: Price listed is for the pair and I have two pairs (total 4 units). Second there is another lot with twin light (5 units available) in my listing that would be a perfect match.
Here an exceptional pair of sconces. The sconces were showing some age for regular use and gold discoloration. I have had them completely re-polished and gilded with thick gold plating and re-wired.
I am listing with Jansen (Maison Jansen) attribution although not found any listing with these pieces.
Very well manufactured with attention to detail. Probably made for the US market as backplate cover the US box.
