A very beautiful pair of antique 17th century baroque period hand-carved giltwood Italian sconces made with gold leaves technique. The corner base is finely carved as acanthus leaves with a pine as final up and down. In the middle of each sconce there is a plain gilt wood band that covers a metal band with holes in which one can put the sconce’s arm. We have just one antique and original arm per sconce but on request we can realize more arms to put on. Each ormolu socket has a very sinuous and curvy shape emphasized by a curl on both sides and embellished by a richly stylized gilt wood leaf pattern. A fully decorative scrolled floral work gilt wood bobeches. Newly wired. These exquisite wall lights were created in the late 19th century by the famous bronzier, Henri Vian (French, 1860-1905). These wall lights are stamped ‘HV 955’ for Henri Vian, along with ‘BY’ for the prestigious Beurdeley furniture-making workshop (French, founded 1818). Vian purchased several bronze models that were created by Beurdeley when the company closed in 1895. These lights were most likely cast from a Beurdeley model. Typical of both Beurdeley’s and Vian’s work, these lights are designed in an 18th century Louis XVI (Neoclassical) style. The wall lights feature gilt bronze (ormolu) backplates which are designed to look like ribbons, tied in bows and ending in tassels. These ribbons support gilt bronze oval frames...

Each three arm sconce is centered by an exceptional bottom ormolu foliate reserve and elegant pierced lattice design from where the two bottom arms branch out. The beautifully scrolled arms are adorned with a stunning array of tole leaves and wonderfully executed colorful hand painted Meissen porcelain flowers leading to remarkable foliate ormolu bobeches and candle cups. At the center of each sconce are exquisite Meissen porcelain statues with the sconce to the left depicting a beautiful maiden dressed in colorful classical attire while wearing a lovely bonnet and holding her dress.
