CB/ASYM Chandelier Etched Brass, Porcelain, Glass Handmade Andrea Claire Studio

By Andrea Claire Studio

Located in Los Angeles, CA

Cloudbreak ASYM V1. et. oak is a mobile fixture with one-of-kind finishes and textures. It is part of our Claire Concepts category, an evolving exploration in lighting that concentrates on the unique and experimental.  Named after Fiji’s famous "Cloudbreak" surf spot, this collection takes cues from the wild colors and shapes of the corals that create these incredible waves. Our cast porcelain clouds mimic the ends of the Stylaster species of coral, which is common in Fiji. The glass diffusers reveal swirls and white-water like patterns and the sea themed etched metal completes the flow of an otherworldly interplay of texture, light, and shadow. The ASYM.V1 has 3 radiating brass arms hanging at a slight tilt, like a soul-surfer riding a wave.  Brass arms, stems and canopies are patterned with a sea inspired etched drawings, hand drawn by Andrea. Etched brass is offered in a Tamarind Patina or in a Natural Waxed finish. Gently balancing on the arms are 1 or 2 coral inspired decorative porcelain shapes called “clouds”. Each cloud is hand glazed multiple times by Andrea to achieve the desired color and texture.  There are 3 hand-blown glass diffusers with Venetian optic twist Grey or Opal & Alabaster. Representing the white water of cresting waves, each piece of glass is finished with three rolls of glinting silver leaf.  The ASYM.V1 has a customizable diameter of between 37 to 43” and it is the largest configuration in the Cloudbreak Luminaire Collection. This fixture is ideal for dining tables, bedrooms, sitting rooms, and dressing areas. It’s unique textures and sea inspired themes will make any space feel special and elevated. Please inquire for custom arrangements. References: coral reef surf breaks, oyster shells, pearls, wave patterns on sand bars, Mary Oliver

Wilhelm Wagenfeld Gray Bauhaus Sconce Double Wall Light by Linder Germany, 1950
Wilhelm Wagenfeld Gray Bauhaus Sconce Double Wall Light by Linder Germany, 1950

Wilhelm Wagenfeld Gray Bauhaus Sconce Double Wall Light by Linder Germany, 1950

By Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Lindner

Located in Vienna, AT

A Midcentury Modern double socket wall lamp/sconce dating back to the 1950s, designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld. Made of porcelain with a glossy grey glaze accentuated by two white opaline glass lampshades/bulb covers. Based on our experience so far, the gray version is relatively rare and also one of the most in demand. Executed by Linder Wandleuchten in Germany, this piece offers two E14 light sources and is preserved in excellent condition. The lamp is delivered in a way that allows for hassle-free use worldwide and complies with the standards commonly used in different regions (USA, EU, etc.). This minimalistic wall light is suitable for various rooms, with a particular recommendation for bathrooms or as a vanity mirror light. Wilhelm Wagenfeld was a renowned German designer recognized for his significant contributions to the field of industrial design. Born in 1900 in Bremen, Germany, he was particularly acclaimed for his works in the Bauhaus style and later contributions to modern design. His notable designs include the Bauhaus Table Lamp (1924), also known as the "Wagenfeld Lamp," the Kubus Chess Set (1928), a minimalist chess...

Antique and Vintage Porcelain Decorative Objects, Tableware, Dinner Plates and Other Furniture for Sale

While it is tempting to store your antique and vintage porcelain decorative objects and other items behind closed glass cabinet doors and reserve them only for display, your porcelain dinner plates and serving platters can safely weather the “dangers” of the dining room and be used during meals. Porcelain, a durable and nonporous kind of pottery made from clay and stone, was first made in China and spread across the world owing to the trade routes to the Far East established by Dutch and Portuguese merchants. Given its origin, English speakers called porcelain “fine china,” an expression you still might hear today. "Fine" indeed — for over a thousand years, it has been a highly sought-after material.

Porcelain is not totally clumsy-guest-proof, but it is surprisingly durable and easy to clean. Its low permeability and hardness have rendered porcelain wares a staple in kitchens and dining rooms as well as a common material for bathroom sinks and dental veneers.

Meissen Porcelain, one of the first factories to create real porcelain outside Asia, popularized figurine centerpieces during the 18th century in Germany, while works by Capodimonte, a porcelain factory in Italy, are synonymous with flowers and notoriously hard to come by. Elsewhere, Denmark’s Royal Copenhagen first made dinnerware and vases with blue-and-white motifs inspired by Chinese porcelain. Hungarian brand Herend favors large, bold designs for its porcelain, with its serving pieces, dishes and other works incorporating historical scenes, animals or vegetation.

Modern porcelain houses such as Maison Fragile of Limoges, France — long a hub of private porcelain manufacturing — keep the city’s long tradition alive while collaborating with venturesome contemporary artists such as illustrator Jean-Michel Tixier.

Add different textures and colors to your table with dinner plates and pitchers of ceramic and silver or a porcelain lidded tureen, a serving dish with side handles that is often used for soups. Although porcelain and ceramic are both made in a kiln, porcelain is made with more refined clay and is stronger than ceramic because it is denser.
