The piece dates back to the mid 20th Century, circa 1950, and offers a unique shape with a foliate motif throughout. Floral bobeches reach out from petal shaped arms, all of which are connected to a palm frond inspired center stem. The piece plays host to five arms and five lights. This lovely old tray made circa 1860 is inlaid with mother of pearl and tole decorated with flowers set into a lustrous lacquer surface applied to the tinware tray. The flowers are painted in a lively and realistic manner and the tray is further decorated with a meandering border of flowers and vines in gilding and colors along the edge of the dished section of the tray and then again on the broad flat area of the tray's edge. The stand in a Regency form is also decorated in similar colors and with gold. The tray has a label from the 1840s affixed to the reverse that says it was restored and most likely at that time the stand was fashioned and painted to accompany the tray.
