A most impressive and ornately decorated antique electrified hanging lantern from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico (New Spain). Exquisitely hand-crafted in the 19th century (possibly late 18th century), even though San Miguel was the first town in present day Mexico to win independence from the Spanish Empire in the early nineteenth century, this lantern displays strong European old world influence. Constructed of wonderfully patinated wrought iron and oxidized tin, tall cylindrical shaped, framed with intricate scrollwork, openwork, and an abundance of fiolate decoration in the delicate form of serrated acanthus leaves. Retaining the six original bubble glass panels. The interior having a central candelabra like independently hung fixture adorned with six faux candle flame light bulbs. Originally made before the invention of electricity, this lantern has been converted from candle light to modern day electricity, accepting standard candelabra bulbs. Faux flaming bulbs included. It can be used a variety of ways, including as an indoor hanging pendant lamp, chandelier, outdoor patio or covered entry way, or placed as a table lamp on a large console table or sideboard. Timelessly elegant, producing a warm silhouette and enchanting glow with breath-taking radiating patterns, that lends to creating an ambiance of cozy romantic warmth and rich sophisticated depth, visually striking and reminiscent of a magnificent Medieval wood burning fireplace. Circa 1930's free wheeling green lithographed all tin racing car, with attached pressed steel driver; it is probably of French manufacturer (the only time I have seen for sale was from a French toy dealer). This scarce toy has markings resembling early racing cars with the streamlined style graphics in yellow and green; standard grill; exhaust four manifolds to each side, and a spare tire attached to the rear; looks like an early Le Mans type car with the spare (see images). Other markings include the number "3:" on each side; "510 x 1" on the rear tire"; and probably the makers mark and logo, which I can't identify, on the top right behind the driver (see images). Not being a wind-up or a friction toy, this racing car was pushed across the floor by hand or/and used as an accessory in a toy train layout...
