This exceptional Greek textile, dating to the 18th century, is a remarkable survivor of the Mediterranean embroidery tradition. During this period, Greek island and mainland embroideries were highly prized for their vibrant color palettes, intricate needlework, and motifs that blended Byzantine, Ottoman, and Western influences into a unique regional aesthetic.
The design features a dense, rhythmic all over pattern of stylized floral rosettes and blossoms in rich shades of madder red and deep indigo blue.
