Pair of Italian Modernist Woven Cord Lounge Chairs Attributed to Giuseppe Pagano

By Giuseppe Pagano Pogatschnig

Located in Almelo, NL

Pair of Italian Modernist Woven Cord and Metal Lounge Chairs, Attributed to Giuseppe Pagano, 1940s Rare and highly decorative pair of Italian Modernist lounge chairs from the 1940s, attributed to Giuseppe Pagano. These striking armchairs feature an exceptionally light and architectural construction, combining slender black-finished metal frames with warm wooden details and beautifully woven natural cord seats and backrests. The geometric basket-weave pattern creates a strong graphic appearance while retaining the functional simplicity and restrained aesthetic associated with Italian Rationalism and early Italian Modernism. Particularly distinctive are the long wooden armrests, which provide a warm contrast to the elegant black metal structure. The slightly reclined backrests, low seating position and beautifully balanced proportions give the chairs a relaxed yet sophisticated appearance. The combination of metal, wood and natural woven cord gives these chairs an honest and highly tactile material quality. Their open construction makes them particularly attractive from every angle, including the rear, allowing them to be positioned freely within a room. Both chairs remain in exceptionally beautiful original vintage condition. The woven cord, wooden components and black-finished metal frames have been very well preserved and retain a wonderful authentic patina. A sophisticated and unusual pair of Italian lounge chairs with a strong architectural presence, suitable for both important private interiors and professional interior projects. The chairs are offered as a matching pair of two. Attribution The chairs are attributed to Giuseppe Pagano based on their design characteristics and previous market attribution. No manufacturer's label or documentary provenance confirming the attribution is currently available. For this reason, the chairs are conservatively offered as “Attributed to Giuseppe Pagano.” Details Designer: Attributed to Giuseppe Pagano Period: 1940s Country of Origin: Italy Style: Italian Modernist / Italian Rationalist Number of Pieces: 2 Sold As: Pair Materials Black-finished metal Wood Natural woven cord Dimensions – Each Chair Width: 65 cm / 25.59 in Depth: 55 cm / 21.65 in Height: 75 cm / 29.53 in Seat Height: 35 cm / 13.78 in Condition Excellent original vintage condition. The chairs have been exceptionally well preserved and retain their beautiful original woven cord, wooden elements and black-finished metal frames. Only very minor signs of age and use are present, fully consistent with pieces dating from the 1940s. The original materials display a beautiful and authentic patina, and the overall condition is remarkably good for their age. No major restorations or replacements. A rare matching pair in very beautiful and highly original condition. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
