Crate Chair by Gerrit Rietveld, Designed in 1930s The Netherlands
By Gerrit Rietveld, Cassina
Located in Hellouw, NL
Nice Gerrit Rietveld 'Crate' chair. This chair is designed in 1934, however, we think this is a Cassina edition from the 1970s. This chair is made out of ash wood and has a colorless lacquer. 'Gerrit Rietveld designed the 'crate' series of furniture built from standardized pine boards – cheap material for packing crates – which were soon well-known as ‘crate furniture’. 'From 1935 on the progressive designs appeared at Metz & Co, where furniture by Rietveld had already been sold since 1930. The crate desk...

It has been reupholstered. In good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Rob Parry (born in The Hague, Netherlands, 1925) studied at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague where his most important teachers were Cor Alons, Paul Schuitema and Gerrit Rietveld, whom Parry worked for. It was Rietveld’s firm that laid the foundation for Parry’s interest in exhibition design. In 1950, Rob Parry started his own firm. Emile Truijen was his design partner from 1954 to 1958. Together they developed a myriad of designs, including one of the icons of Dutch design: the double post box. Up until 1995, he designed interiors, furniture, stands, exhibitions, Jewellery, lettering and toys. In his designs, Rob Parry experimented with new materials and techniques. Gerrit Rietveld, Red and Blue Chair / Authentic Chair
By Gerrit Rietveld Jr.
Located in Zürich, CH
Here we see a playful kind of experimentation, different from the average modern design, which is more well-behaved and dogmatic. It’s radical, it’s curious, it pushes boundaries. That is a one-of-a-kind piece – unique and outstanding, it holds a museum exhibit quality. An artefact for collectors and connoisseurs. A piece without any compromises. Highly valuable, rarely even offered by auction houses. However, it comes with a price. Originally designed in 1917, this chair is a true representation and one of the first pieces of De Stijl movement. Founded in the Netherlands as a reaction against the horrors of WWI, its visual language consisted of pure, geometrical forms and primary colours. As forms and shapes tended to establish balance and harmony in a world of chaos, this piece is a manifestation of the idea. Some of the first chairs were made for the "Rietveld Schröder House...
