The brass mechanism is in great shape still works effortlessly. Measures: Height 40 inches, width 26 inches, depth fully retracted 30", fully extended depth is 45". Marsh and Jones began making furniture around 1850, originally known as “Marsh and Jones: Medieval Cabinet Makers” of Leeds", becoming Marsh Jones and Cribb in 1867 and exhibited at the Paris Exposition in 1878. They employed Charles Bevan who in 1865 gave them licence to manufacture his successful ‘New Registered Reclining Chair'. This innovation quickly gained popularity for combining comfort with luxury. Napoleon III, the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte and Emperor of the French, reportedly owned one of the first recliners. This model, constructed in neighboring England during the same era, may even resemble the French monarch’s reclinable chair. Intended for an English drawing room or parlor, this beautiful piece features elegant jacquard upholstery and turned legs. Pair of restored Witco Conquistador tiki dramatic high-back chairs in original red fur. These chairs are absolutely wild in the best kind of way. The original red fur fabric has a thick pile. This bright red upholstery adds drama to the high-back, iron cladded, hand-carved chairs. These highly collectible and hard-to-find thrown chairs were born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and Americans were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture.
