Carlo De Carli, born in Milan on 7 November 1910 and died in the same city on 3 March 1999, was an Italian architect, designer and theorist of architecture, one of the protagonists of modern architecture, industrial design, and their teaching.
He was born in Milan, into a bourgeois family that takes its maternal roots on the shores of Lake Garda. This almost Mediterranean nature will have a constant presence in his work. After completing classical studies and a degree in architecture, he worked for a year in the studio of architect Gio Ponti, succeeding him in 1962 at the Polytechnic School of Milan as chair of interior architecture, furniture and decoration.
He produced most of his architectural works, exhibitions and design work from the post-war period until the early seventies. His work as a designer is closely linked to theoretical thinking, places the person at the center of the project, favors the process of forming spaces and objects rather than their being and opens up to their mutual relationships.
De Carli designed many furnishing elements that went into production with Cassina (the 683 mod chair which won the first Compasso D'oro in 1954), Tecno (the Balestra armchair...
