Sculptural Unique Stump Chair by Finnish Matti Martikka in Solid Pine, 1960s
Located in Odense, DK
A sculptural hand carved one of collectible item by Finnish Matti Martikka. A chair made in solid pine from fallen tree trunks. This stump chair is acquired from a museum at his home town of Lappeenranta. This chair is usable, but a bit unstable and therefore more a piece of art. A unique opportunity to acquire a rare decorative object. Other of his pieces has been sold at some of the largest auction houses in the world and shown at different museums. "Matti Martikka from South Karelia was a locally known carpenter. His carpentry hobby began with small everyday objects made for home use, but eventually the interior design of the home was dominated by ever larger wooden objects...

Crate Lounge Chair-BWB Lacquered Pinewood/ Q Cushion- by Gerrit Rietveld for HAY
Located in Dubai, AE
Initially designed to make use of surplus wooden shipping crates by Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld in 1934, the Crate Collection has been relaunched in a Rietveld Originals x HAY collaboration. Made with respect for the original design, the Crate Lounge Chair shares the same precisely balanced proportions and transparent construction to minimize production costs and optimize the assembly process. Featuring low proportions with a gently sloping back and seat with supportive armrests, the chair’s simplicity and spatial design mirrors the designer’s architectural style – providing functionality and comfort without absorbing space. Crafted in solid pine, with a water-based lacquered finish in different color options, the Crate Lounge Chair is suitable for a wealth of indoor and outdoor settings, and is supplemented with seat cushions in selected textiles for extra comfort. Adding extra comfort and functionality to the Crate collection, the Crate Cushion is specially formed to fit the chair seat perfectly. The quilted model features a Velcro® fastening underneath the cushion seat and two straps that fasten around the top of the chair frame, with the seat and folding cushions both featuring an anti-slip bottom to keep them securely in place. Crafted in Teflon®-coated fabric for a water-repellent finish, as well as having a high UV resistance, meaning it is fade-resistant with good color fastness properties. Materials : Black Water-Based Lacquered Pinewood Anthracite Quilted Cushion...

Chair by Dom Hans van der Laan, Netherlands, 1960s
Located in Utrecht, NL
This chair was originally designed by the Dutch Benedictine monk and architect, Dom Hans van der Laan for the Abbey Church of St. Benedictusberg located near the Dutch town of Vaals. This easy chair is in an untouched condition. It was made of pinewood and feature copper nails, giving this piece an understated, rustic look. The chair was entirely painted grey, including the nails. The main focus of van der Laan’s design was functionality and rationality, which is reflected in the openings on the sides and on the back that serves the purpose of joining multiple pieces together. This chair is a beautiful piece of Dutch design history. Although Dom van der Laan left a small body of work behind, his legacy is highly regarded in the world of architecture. The St. Benedictusberg Abbey in Vaals and its interior quickly became his masterpiece at the age of 53. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Item has some small marks and scratches. Dimensions: 21.2 in W x 20.8 in D x 37.4 in H 54 cm W x 53 cm D x 95 cm H About the designer: Dom Hans van der Laan (1904-1991) was the ninth of the eleven recorded children of Leiden architect Leo van der...

Modernist living room set in the manner of Gerrit Rietveld, Netherlands 1950s
Located in ECHT, NL
Handcrafted living room or patio set. It is made in the style of Gerrit Rietveld and is clearly inspired by his legendary "kratstoel" or "crate chair" where difference lies in the amount of slats in the seat and back. This set was made during the 1950s and is entirely made from pine and assembled using round headed screws that are recessed in the wood. Made with great eye for detail. The set consists of 2 two-seater sofas and 1 lounge chair. Dimensions sofa: W. 130cm H. 70cm D. 75cm Dimensions chair. W. 75cm H. 70cm D. 75cm Seat height: sloping back from 33 to 27cm Armrest height: 52cm De Stijl (Dutch for "The Style"), also known as Neoplasticism, was a Dutch art movement founded in 1917 in Leiden. De Stijl consisted of artists and architects. In a more narrow sense, the term De Stijl is used to refer to a body of work from 1917 to 1931 founded in the Netherlands. Proponents of De Stijl advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and colour; they simplified visual compositions to vertical and horizontal, using only black, white and primary colors. De Stijl is also the name of a journal that was published by the Dutch painter, designer, writer, and critic Theo van Doesburg that served to propagate the group's theories. Along with van Doesburg, the group's principal members were the painters Piet Mondrian, Vilmos Huszár, Bart van der Leck, and the architects Gerrit Rietveld, Robert van 't Hoff, and J. J. P. Oud. The artistic philosophy that formed a basis for the group's work is known as Neoplasticism—the new plastic art (or Nieuwe Beelding in Dutch). According to Theo van Doesburg in the introduction of the magazine De Stijl 1917 no.1, the "De Stijl"-movement was a reaction to the "Modern Baroque" of the Amsterdam School movement (Dutch expressionist...
