Aujourd'hui, les lignes de meubles les plus populaires du fabricant suédois DUX- ainsi que les meubles créés par son premier président, Folke Ohlsson - sont synonymes du travail que les obsessionnels du design moderne vintage du milieu du siècle aiment. Autre élément important, la marque est connue pour certains des moyens d'expédition et de production de meubles les plus courants de l'ère moderne. En Suède, Studio Ljungs Industrier AB est la grande société mère familiale de Duxiana (en Amérique, DUX). Initialement fournisseur de literie, aujourd'hui célèbre pour ses conceptions ergonomiques, Ljungs Industrier a été fondé par l'entrepreneur (et chocolatier) Efraim Ljung en 1926. En 1950, Folke Ohlsson, qui dirigeait alors l'équipe de conception de Ljungs Industrier, s'est rendu aux États-Unis pour étudier comment il pourrait développer l'activité de DUX, qui comprenait alors une large gamme de meubles. Peu après son arrivée en Californie, M. Ohlsson a ouvert un bureau DUX, d'abord à San Francisco, puis à Burlingame. Sur la côte ouest, le marché américain d'après-guerre en plein essor était impatient d'adopter les meubles de chambre à coucher abordables et pratiques de DUX, les tables, les fauteuils et autres sièges. This beautiful pair of Roche Bobois Mah Jong elements by Hans Hopfer are from the earlier years of the design in the 1970s, before they created the Missoni and Jean Paul Gaultier collaborations where they gained a new look.
This pair of Mah Jong elements are without a seat back, so they are ideal as a pair of large floor cushions or stacked on top of another as a large ottoman. At home, we have another pair of these that we use for our dogs as a large dog bed which we humans also use. When we want more floor space we can stack them and push them against the wall. When we have guests and need more seating in the living room we pull them over and stack next to a coffee table. But most of the time it is side by side for the dogs to use and when us humans need a quick NAP - we use it as a daybed underneath a skylight or can lay with the dogs for a quick cuddle.
This pair of Mah Jong sectional sofa elements was reupholstered with new fabric over the original interior foam, original bottom lining and labels. The visible fabric is brand new and is in mint condition. Everything else was cleaned, but is original. So it’s the best of both worlds - for those who want a clean, new fabric but also an early production year example of a Classic design. Photos of another pair that we have, in its original fabric are in the photos of this listing.
This pair of early production Roche Bobois Mah Jong elements would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern or Danish modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a contemporary or Postmodern room. Also consider mixing it up in a traditional, transitional, classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Four adjustable sofa base elements DS-1088/05 and three cushions DS-1088/96 by de Sede. Patchwork in its prettiest form. DS-1088 presents itself with a beautiful special feature. The leather is elaborately crafted by hand in a patchwork appearance – for an individually stylish look. The sofa landscape consists of single cubic elements that can be combined with one another in infinite ways. Cushions with an elongated design need no attachment to stay on the sofa and can be moved around in flexible ways. We launched this favorite sofa back in 1975. Now, nearly 45 years later, we are celebrating its comeback.

Standard configuration: Seat element in a patchwork look, connectors can be used to combine the individual seating elements to create custom sofa landscapes.
Upholstery and assembly: Sedex upholstery covered with wadding. Compact frame made of panel materials and strapped to seat frame. Cushions filled with spelt chaff and latex for combined support and comfort. Glides for hard and soft floor coverings.
Function: Unused connectors can be removed.

Where the St. Lawrence River Mon-treal flows in a serpentine pattern, a residential complex marked by the architectural style of brutalism rises up on a small headland – the famous Habitat 67. 354 concrete blocks arranged in a stepped pattern adorn a part of Montreal’s multifaceted skyline, designed by architect Moshe Safdie for Expo 67. Not far from this memorable silhouette grew up Philippe Malouin, who was inspired by these forms of brutalism through-out his life. After Malouin received the call from de Sede and initial ideas were exchanged, the designer was largely given a free hand and Malouin started his work “by making things”. Simply drawing, cutting or even folding different materials are part of the creation of the new sculpture DS-707. Philippe Malouin experimented with folding foam for the Swiss manu-facturer - the result: a modular sofa system with a traditional yet con-temporary aesthetic. Carried by the sweeping serpentines of the river, the idea for a sculpture that fuses into one form was born in the London studio near the Thames. The masterpiece DS-707 is a homage to classic de Sede designs and was created for the future.
The DS-707 is the modern composition of handmade leather and contemporary design. The flowing, soft transitions combine the postmodern era of Swiss furniture design with the clear, open structures of brutalism that inspired designer Philippe Malouin. Available as a comfortable armchair or as a modular sofa that can be combined in infinite ways, the DS-707 is the visual perfection of form that gives every room a unique highlight.
