Warm light brown oak and rich copper form a beautiful color palette in this cabinet vaisselier from the 1950s. On the front and top of the cabinet, the oak displays a striped lightwood/dark wood pattern that feels fun and very much of the era, while the recessed portions of the oak appear to shift into burnt orange for a subtle injection of natural color. Opening the door at the front of the cabinet, a series of small drawers are revealed for hidden storage and organization; the left side of the cabinet is formed by transparent glass, ideal for stowing decorative items or glassware, as well as giving the piece a sense of being filled with light. This extremely rare, Antique French Cupboard, is from the Château de Loyat in Brittany, which I believe dates back to the 1500, was in a condition, that Antique dealers can only dream of. The French Cupboard or Cabinet, is exactly what you would expect, a 300-year-old antique French Cabinet to look like, if no one ever touched the finish, let alone restore the Antique Cupboard. Our opinion is, that this Antique French Cupboard or Cabinet, could have been made in the late 1600s or early 1700s and if I did not know that this Cupboard was made from French White Oak, one would have thought it was constructed of iron, based on its weight. Our centuries old French Cupboard, was constructed without the use of any nails or glue, for the entire Antique Cabinet was assembled using wooden pegs. Our Old Plank restoration department, has just completed a 240-hour conservation procedure, wherein lieu of just replacing the old worn wood oak boards, we chose to harden them and only used small fillets of antique French Oak for repair. Yes, this became a labor of love, but for us, to find an antique French Cabinet, in this virgin untouched state, is quite rare nowadays, so, the choice was made to conserve, rather than restore, which required triple the labor. Stunning Arts and Crafts cupboard by one of the greatest. We are certain that this wonderful handcrafted, stained oak cabinet was designed by Leonard Francis Wyburd (1865-1958). We are certain, because of several style elements that are typical for his designs for Liberty & Co in the late 19th century. We have no pictures in books or other evidence, but the pieces from his hand that can be found on the internet reveal style elements that are very similar and they were used by no one else. The design of this incredibly artistic piece shows both the influences of Medieval and Rural Britain. It were these early and amazing pieces of furniture from the Liberty Studio (headed by Wyburd) that made people across the continent speak of the 'Stile Liberty'. Designers like Wyburd and pieces of furniture like this amazing cabinet, influenced and shaped the entire development of the Jugendstil and Art Nouveau in Europe. That too makes this rare piece important for collectors and possibly for museums around the world. This cupboard is a work of art and it is an absolute joy to look at. It is all made of solid and stained oak and apart from the stunning and impressive overal design with the overhanging top with supporting beams, there are some key style elements that make this cabinet really stand out. First of all, there is the ever so true saying which is embossed in copper in beautiful Arts and Crafts letters which reads 'WELCOME IS THE BEST CHEER'.
