Exceedingly Rare Jugend Cabinet by Eliel Saarinen, Early 1900s

About the Item

Jugend cabinet by Eliel Saarinen from the early 1900s. Originally designed to the Nordic Share Bank. The same symbol can be found in the archive pictures of the bank. Solid wood with copper details. Beautiful craftsmanship. Good vintage condition, patina and wear consistent of age and use. The cabinet consist of two separate pieces, the top piece and the cabinet piece. Gottlieb Eliel Saarinen was a Finnish-American architect known for his work with art nouveau / jugend buildings in the early years of the 20th century. He was also the father of famed architect Eero Saarinen.

    Rare dining cabinet attributed to Eliel Saarinen (father of Eero Saarinen) designed before his immigration to the United States. In a style that we now refer to as "Art Deco," this style was considered the "National Romantic Style" in Finland - essentially a twist on what became known worldwide as Art Deco - with its strong vertical lines and medieval references. The workmanship of this cabinet and its materials is magnificent.
