This Trumeau has been handmade using the technique of Venetian art. In the 18th century in Venice the fashion of lacquering spread. Using small prints, cut out and then glued on the wood, then handpainted and lacquered at the end. The finishing was in fact in shellac which, passed in several very thin layers, gave brightness and uniformity to the decoration. This type of finishing was placed both on the outside of the Venetian furniture of the eighteenth century, and on the inside of the drawers and doors . Early 20th century Chinese lacquered wood armoire with hand-carved gilt panels, doors and drawers. Created in the early years of the 20th century, this Chinese armoire features a linear silhouette accented by a natural wood patina. Two small doors in the upper section are adorned with four exquisite gilded scholar scenes panels protected behind glass. Two larger doors below are decorated with gilded warrior fight scenes, standing out beautifully on the black background. These doors open to reveal two inner shelves with hidden drawers. The lower section of the piece showcases two drawers with simply raised panels. The armoire is resting on four straight legs. A superb quality palatial French Louis XVI style ormolu mounted, satinwood, kingwood parquetry and Vernis Martin style paneling three-door raised Vitrine Display Cabinet attributed to Paul Sormani (1817-1877). A Vernis Martin Panel signed "V. Gossen." The lower part of the cabinet with three frieze drawers supported by two square-sectioned on tapered legs, fronting an ormolu mounted parquetry back panel, on toupie feet. The ormolu stamped with the initials "P.S." on the reverse. Circa: Paris, 1870. Height: 101 inches (256.5 cm). Width: 56 inches (142.2 cm). Depth: 20 inches (50.8 cm). Sormani, Paul (1817-1877): Born in Venice, Paul Sormani set up in Paris in the middle of the 19th century.
