About the Item

Much of Tom’s work has been informed by his ability to work with an ever-expanding range of materials and skills both ancient and contemporary. He has a particular fascination in the world of Medieval and Renaissance Europe but also the aesthetic and art of later Japanese makers and artists. He takes inspiration from functional objects as well as religious and fine art. As well as working on his own pieces, Tom has developed and created specific elements for many projects on a more architectural scale for both private and industry clients. In recent years he has been called upon to create deeply textural pieces using everything from timeless ‘noble’ materials such as stone and bronze to newly emerging industrial composites. This very brief overview gives some insight into Tom’s astonishing range. Tom is included in the prestigious Homo Faber Guide of craftsmanship compiled by the Michelangelo Foundation. He was awarded a QEST scholarship which took him and his work to Italy. Tom’s work has since been selected by QEST for exhibitions and press coverage.
