Buttercut side table by Robert Stadler
Located in Pireaus-Athens, Greece
For the OMG-GMO project, Robert Stadler borrows the forms of these engineered fruit and vegetables to create ten ceramic, hand painted objects that ironically transform the organic into something structural and functional. Conceived as a series of small-scale monuments, these objects both criticise and mock human manipulation of nature: a slice of a Japanese rectangular seedless watermelon becomes a stool, zucchini bend in a perfect L shape to create a set of shelves, and wheel-like aubergines support a glass coffee table, as a reference to Gae Aulenti’s Tavolo...

Table 1 La Che by Sebastian Herkner
Located in Geneve, CH
Table 1 La Che by Sebastian Herkner Materials: 100% Fique fibers from Furcraea leaves from Furcraea leaves. Technique: Hand-woven in Colombia. Dimensions: Diameter 47 cm x Width 31 x Height 33 cm Available in colors: black, verde, bronce, cuerda. And other sizes. The La Che Side Table honors the beautiful traditional weaving Craft of Colombia. Sebastian Herkner designed the collection after visiting Colombia and studying the weaving techniques of the local artisans. The name La Che is a reference to the Laches, an indigenous Colombian people, who used a method with the same name to create baskets. The tables are available in three sizes. The tables are made in small workshops in the Boyacá region, which is situated 2,400 meters above sea level in the Colombian Andes. This area has a long tradition of working with fibers made from the leaves of the fique plant. These fibers are wound by hand and a robust part of the fique plant is used as a frame. The dyes used have mostly natural ingredients, such as nuts, roots, and bark from trees, all native to the region. The production process is very labor-intense and requires a great deal of skill: It takes several weeks to produce one La Che table...
