This artwork, created by Johannes Jan Schoonhoven in his Amstelveen atelier in 2018, is a striking example of his signature relief technique. Made from papier-mâché, pigment, and paint on canvas, the piece embodies the artist’s deep engagement with texture, repetition, and light. The structured yet organic grid-like pattern reflects the influence of his grandfather, Jan Schoonhoven, while maintaining a distinct, contemporary identity. The monochromatic composition enhances the play of light and shadow across the surface, creating a dynamic visual rhythm. This piece is a testament to Schoonhoven’s dedication to material exploration and minimalist aesthetics. In excellent condition and signed and dated at the back; Jan Schoonhoven Jr 2018.
