A good antique French baroque carved walnut credence cabinet on stand, circa 1650. The two part cabinet comprising a two door cabinet on stand, the top having a carved & stepped crown, below are a pair of cupboard doors the rectangular panels in relief and carved with a lozenge design to the center, these panels are repeated on the sides. The doors are flanked with a pair of carved winged cherub masks with a carved foliate panel below, a corresponding carved panel is between the doors. The rear of the doors are covered with a mustard colored fabric and can be easily removed, the doors have the original hand cut steel lock and key and the doors enclose a single shelf. The cabinet dates circa 1650 the stand below is from the mid 19th century, circa 1850, the stand having a single drawer carved with a saints head to the center & a carved frieze with arches containing carved acanthus leaf. A very fine & large pair of 19th century antique French Sevres Porcelain, ormolu and champleve enamel, handpainted ewers, signed "C. Rochette", circa 1890. Each ewer having a finely cast & gilded bronze rococo handle, each neck is decorated with exquisite champleve enamel. Each ewer having a dark blue porcelain baluster shaped body, with two oval hand-painted reserves each with a courting couple signed "C. Rochette", both reserves are surrounded with lavish gilding & at the base of each painted panel are the Sevres interlaced L's. To the rear are corresponding panels also finely handpainted with landscape scenes, the ewers are raised on champleve socle bases and with onyx plinths below. A good antique English, Charles II (Carolean) period carved oak bible or document box, circa 1680. Such boxes were particularly popular in the 17th century, when printed bibles were very expensive and a treasured family possession. The bible was most likely the only book owned by a family and was also the means of recording births, deaths & marriages which would be written on the flyleaf or endpapers. They were also used to protect other important documents and valuables and were brought to colonial America by early settlers. This bible box dates shortly after the English Civil War & the brief time that England was a Republic (known then as the Commonwealth) under Oliver Cromwell. The box typifies those Puritan values, simple six plank construction with a hinged lid enclosing a storage area for a bible or important documents. The front of the box having a carved foliate twin lunette design with a hand cut steel lock & hasp above, the box is robust & solid & for it's 350 or so years it is in very good condition!
