Beast, One of a Kind Blue Bench in Brazilian Hardwood
By Todos Os Fogos
Located in São Paulo, SP
Sculpture-bench presented at the 12th São Paulo Design Week, in 2023, during the exhibition “How much time do we have?”. at the historic "Edifício Virgínia", a derelict building in the downtown core of Brazil's most populous city. "Beast 2023" is a metaphor for Ana's creative process as a woodworker and designer, six years after I started working with solid wood. The project discusses the impossibility of control during creative processes, and the vitality that objects gain by distancing themselves from the initial illustration. The bench was made in two species of brazilian hardwood: jequitibá rosa (cariniana legalis) and muiracatiara (astronium lecointei ducke). Its main body was handcrafted in jequitibá rosa, colored in indigo blue and finished with a mix of tung oil and copal varnish. The wood clamp...
