de Cordova House

Family Home by Kay Kollar Design in Beverly Hills, CA

Built along a ridge in Trousdale Estates, a mid-century enclave in heart of Beverly Hills, a house designed by Rex Lotery in the mid-1960s for Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show producer, Fred deCordova and his wife Janet —was later bought by my clients, a young couple with a growing family. By developing a bold, colorful palette and selecting an array of furniture—a mix of contemporary and vintage pieces, I wanted to design a modernist response to Lotery’s dramatic spaces and expressive use of redwood, stone and terrazzo. A new excitement returned and a more livable scale emerged—creating an enhanced backdrop for a modern family’s domestic life. Renovation by: Callas Shortridge Architects
