Mountain Brook House

The decoration of a shingle-style house designed by the architect James Carter. What appears to be a cottage in a woodland setting is actually a large house with striking vistas between rooms. The interiors subtly blend the house’s rustic interior details with the urbane, tailored sensibility of the client. Vivid arsenic green is used as a shock of color in the dining room wallpaper, butler’s pantry millwork, and a small study while the rest of the throughout the palate is defined by cool neutral blues, greens and grays. Rustic French and refined Neoclassical antiques and modern touches reinforce the stylistic dichotomy.
