This fine and exceptionally cast patinated bronze sculpture is the work of two masters of the decorative arts, Henri Chapu (French, 1833-1891) and Ferdinand Barbedienne (French, 1810-1892). Chapu was responsible for the design of the sculpture which is titled 'La Jeunesse' and depicts a young girl swathed in Classical style clothing reaching up to place a laurel branch on top of a wall. Bronze lamp in the form of a townhouse by Bergman Austrian, circa 1900 Measures: Height 30m, width 17cm, depth 10cm This delightful cold-painted bronze lamp was crafted by the famous Viennese foundry owner, Franz Xavier Bergman. Franz Xavier inherited the Bergman Foundry from his father, Franz Bergman, in the 1890s. Bergman’s works were called ‘cold-painted’, meaning that several layers of paint were applied by hand to the bronze piece after it had been cast. The lamp takes the form of a tall, multi-storeyed timber and brick building. The house is faced with yellow plaster and roofed with red tiles. It is dotted with green-grilled windows of varying shape and size and features a small turret on its right side. A door opens on the left side of the middle storey, to allow access to the light bulb contained there. When turned on, the light produced by the bulb shines atmospherically out through the house’s colored windows. To the right of the building, a minstrel stands on stone steps, and sings along to a tune he plays on his mandolin. The hanging sign of a boot projects out from the house on the left, identifying the building as a cobbler’s shop. Indeed, the two large oak doors...

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver and glass ladies inkstand; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection This exceptional antique George III sterling silver desk Standish has a navette shaped form onto four bracket feet. This inkstand is encompassed with an applied thread decorated border, in addition to the contemporary engraved initials 'WW'. The rim of the body of the sterling silver inkstand is ornamented with a paralleling applied reed decorated border. The internal wirework style frame of the stand is divided into three rounded supports. Each internal compartment retains the original rounded glass bottles with cut glass ornamentation in addition to impressive scalloped bases. The ink, pen/quill and pounce bottles retain the original plain silver cylindrical mounts fitted with push fit hallmarked covers. The rim of each circular cover is encircled with applied moulded borders and bears the corresponding functional pierced decorated holes. This large silver ink Standish was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Henry Chawner. Such original ladies examples, in perfect condition, are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
