Quinta Strada 2-Seat Large Sofa in Clean Grey Upholstery by Sergio Bicego

By Sergio Bicego, Saba Italia

Located in Brooklyn, NY

Brought out in 1996, the Quinta Strada seating range was a pioneering design of the modern style. Streamlined yet modularly flexible, the range is now reproduced with a sensitive restyling that is mindful of the new contemporary language. The black chrome finish of the feet, the thinner joining clamps and the lightness of the base and back support are elegant touches appropriate to the modern lifestyle. The various pieces in the Quinta Strada collection allow for numerous configurations and particularly interesting compositions even in corner situations. Born in 1953 he left formal education and began, almost by chance, his experience in the field of the padded furniture. Fascinated by the world that surrounded him, he eagerly devoted himself to researching building forms and techniques which have borne fruit for the companies in which he worked. In 1991 he opened his studio as an independent designer and in 1993 he came across Saba Italia. New challenges and new incentives lead to the creation of the “nomad sofa”: Taos, Ananta, Limes, Nesting, Pixel. Creations that were born from reflection of new desires that encourage us to live in a less formal way, equipped with systems that enable change with simple gestures, by playing with shapes. Structure: Base in plywood and steel, back in honeycomb-paneled solid wood padded with variable-density polyurethane foam (75IP and 30IP), covered with velfodera on a polyester fiber 300 gr/sqm. The back is supported by steel brackets black...

Les Femmes Medium Sofa in Lario Red & White Upholstery by Giuseppe Viganò

Les Femmes Medium Sofa in Lario Red & White Upholstery by Giuseppe Viganò

By Saba Italia

Located in Brooklyn, NY

Les Femmes is an innovative modular couch with a high backrest and a comfortable seat, characterized by its soft, enveloping shape. Using just three elements, its original design permits a wide variety of arrangements. The backrest and armrest can be variably positioned, creating an appealing, versatile seating range. With a raised backrest and armrest, Les Femmes is a snug, reassuring sofa; with the armrest lowered it is different and appealing; lowering the backrest makes it feisty and fun. The backrest and the armrest can be folded outwards by a special swivel device which enables a quick, fluid manoeuvre with a simple movement of the hand. The designer Giuseppe Viganò is dedicated to the industrial design of furniture products and to the artistic direction of companies in the sector. He also provides graphic consulting for the production of catalogues, getting directly involved in the photography, page layout, communication and advertising pages. He designs trade fair layouts and permanent furniture shops or temporary areas for specific events and personally intervenes by indicating the choice of products and scenery design. In 2007 he started working with Saba Italia...

Green Borghese Sofa, Noé Duchaufour Lawrance
Green Borghese Sofa, Noé Duchaufour Lawrance

Green Borghese Sofa, Noé Duchaufour Lawrance

By Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance

Located in Geneve, CH

Borghese is a light sofa inspiredby the stone pines of the Villa Borghese gardens in Roma. The metal structure reproduces the network of branches and supports the back cushions, the whole draws a comfortable landscape. Color scale: Borghese is available in a selection of colors chosen by the designer, used either in a single colour version, or as a combination of four colors Dimensions, volume and weight Height 33.5 inches Length 74 inches Width 32.7 inches Weight 143 lbs Materials and construction: Black grained mat lacquered steel structure. High density polyurethane foam. Upolstery 100% wool. Biography Not wishing to simply produce or be rational about a product, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance prefers that each of his projects has its own unique scenario, nourished without distinction between uses, forms, materials or aesthetics. For him, curves and straight lines, sensuality and strictness interact in confrontations that are conducive to create meaning and awaken our senses. Through his desire to breath life into both the objects and spaces he designs, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance views each project as an organic form that will grow over time with its user, almost like a natural element that can Challenge human order or disorder. Originally, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance was a sculptor, preoccupied with each work he created by a story and intimate link with nature that he felt the need to retranscribe by using his hands. But soon the IDEA of stirring emotions in others by creating useful forms became an evident path for someone who loves the beautiful as much as the functional and harmony as much as social responsibility. So he turned to design. Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance often compares his approach to tsubo niwa, the tiny garden at the centre of a traditional Japanese house. Like an organic pulse in a profession dedicated to meeting the demands of an industry, a market or a specific client, he is as ready to design objects with inspired lines for manufacturers (Bernhardt Design, Ceccotti Collezioni, Cinna, Ligne Roset, La Chance, Petite Friture, Tacchini, Zanotta.) as he is to imagine harmonious living areas (Senderens, Air France Lounges, Ciel de Paris, Meurice Oenotheque, Transumance Chalet, #Cloud Paris lounge) or even to define a product image or showcase for a famous brand (Paco Rabanne, YSL Beauty, Perrier-Jouët,). Thus in 2015 Montblanc associated its name with Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, entrusting him with the architectural plans of the company’s 500 boutiques worldwide. His unique approach has led him to conceive exceptional objects that have been presented in the Pierre bergere gallery in Brussels and the BSL gallery in Paris. He has participated in prestigious events like the AD Interiors exhibition at Paris’ Musée des Arts Decoratifs in 2013 and more recently, the AD collections exhibition, also in Paris. His creative meanderings have led him to initiate a collaboration with the Neal Feay workshop in the United States and also to work with two royal factories in France: Mobilier National (National Furniture) and the Manufacture de Sevres (ceramics). The latter two endeavors combine his contemporary vision of design with the finely-honed skills of master craftsmen that were used in the 18th century. His approach has been acclaimed by the French and international press and he has received many prizes including NeoCon Silver 2016 for his Modern Family collection for Bernhardt Design, the 2015 Via Label, the 2014 Janus business prize for the Air France Salons, the GQ Best Designer prize in 2012, the prestigious Red Dot prize for Best Product in 2011 and both the Elle Decoration International Design Prize and Wallpaper Design Award in 2009. With his innate fondness for Art Nouveau, he relies not only on the universal character of nature to impose shapes that make sense but believes that the IDEA of a total, multidisciplinary art is vital for contemporary creation. Bed & Breakfast Sofa Bed in Lario Light Grey Upholstery by Giuseppe Viganò
Bed & Breakfast Sofa Bed in Lario Light Grey Upholstery by Giuseppe Viganò

Bed & Breakfast Sofa Bed in Lario Light Grey Upholstery by Giuseppe Viganò

By Saba Italia

Located in Brooklyn, NY

Bed & Breakfast is a sofa which transforms into a comfortable bed simply by folding down the backrest. The sofa bed is easy to open, thanks to a rectangular hole cut into the underside of the base, and to the special structure of the boxspring, which runs horizontally on a finger-jointed mechanism to create the extra length needed. Bed and Breakfast ranges are comprised of the Sofa-double bed and the Chaise Longue-single bed. This is the result of advanced research into new-generation materials which give maximum comfort with optimum resilience. The maxi scatter cushions unfold to create a small quilt, and can then be refolded and fastened with two buttons, to offer excellent back support. Acerbis Free System Sofa by Claudio Salocchi

By Claudio Salocchi, Acerbis

Located in Brooklyn, NY

In 1973, Claudio Salocchi designed Free System: a system of padded furniture deriving from the concept of “operated flooring”, or tatami, where the padded units could be placed freely side by side. With its completely modular and sectional elements and from the perspective of an optimal use of space, we can view Free System as the embodiment of the modern house utopia. A programme of padded furniture that goes beyond the sofa model, Free System presents a series of elements (tatami, pouf and seat with different and interchangeable backrests) that make up a modular system that can be arranged in a variety of combinations. Available elements _ seat module with curved backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm; _ seat module with inclined backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm; _ pouf module...

Ivory “Camaleonda” Modular Sofa in 4 Segments by Mario Bellini, Italy 1971
Ivory “Camaleonda” Modular Sofa in 4 Segments by Mario Bellini, Italy 1971

Ivory “Camaleonda” Modular Sofa in 4 Segments by Mario Bellini, Italy 1971

By Mario Bellini, B&B Italia

Located in Utrecht, NL

The “Camaleonda” (Italian word play combining the words ‘chameleon’ and ‘wave’) sofa is Mario Bellini’s contemporary classic. The playful, modular design offers endless options for the user, which also inspired the model’s name. Camaleonda has passed through 5 decades of design history as a true icon. The modules of the sofa defined the aesthetics of an entire era of interior design, and are constantly featured in most international design. The elements that have made this sofa a contemporary classic are the individual modules, their original cutting patterns and the polyurethane padding that forms the characteristic capitonné (a style of upholstery in which the material is drawn in at intervals) design. The four separate segments of this “Camaleonda” were manufactured with the innovative system of cables, hooks and rings created by Bellini in 1970, which defines the characteristic look and modularity. The fundamental characteristic of Camaleonda is its unlimited modularity, a geometric pattern that allows each element to become an enormous pixel through which to define your home environment. The four modules’ versatility and the attached tie-rods and rings make it possible to create custom forms. Furthermore, the modules can be unhooked and recombined at will, allowing the sofa to adapt to an evolving taste and needs. A concept which is dear to Mario Bellini: “Of all the objects I have designed, Camaleonda is perhaps the best in terms of its sense of freedom. There are infinite numbers of possible configurations.” Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The four modules have been reupholstered recently in premium bouclé fabric. Dimensions: Big segment: 37.40 in W x 37.40 in D x 27.55 in H (with back) 95 cm W x 95 cm D x 70 cm H (with back) Small segment: 25.59 in W x 37.40 in D x 27.55 in H (with back) 65 cm W x 95 cm D x 70 cm H (with back) Literature: Domus n. 523, giugno 1973, pubblicità; G. Gramigna, Repertorio del design italiano 1950 - 1980, Milano 1985, p. 341. About the designer: Mario Bellini (born February 1, 1935, Milan) is an internationally renowned Italian architect and designer. He received the Golden Compass Award eight times and the Medaglia d’Oro, that was conferred on him by the President of the Italian Republic. The MoMA in New York already dedicated a personal retrospective exhibition to him in 1987. At the time the museum already included 25 of his works in its permanent collection, including a remarkable set of Olivetti machines as well as the furniture for B&B and Cassina. He graduated from the Milan Polytechnic - Faculty of Architecture in 1959 and began working as an architect himself in the early 1960s. Like many other Italian architects, his activities range from architecture and urban planning to product and furniture design. His career as a product and furniture designer began in 1963, and from 1963 to 1991 he was chief design consultant for Olivetti. For many years he designed furnishing products and systems for B&B Italia and Cassina, TV sets for Brionvega, and hi-fi systems, headphones and electric organs...

Acerbis Life Sofa and Pouf in Brown Upholstery with Dark Stained Walnut Frame

By Acerbis, Roberto Monsani

Located in Brooklyn, NY

Created in 1975 by Florentine architect Roberto Monsani, Life is a modular sofa and an armchair with a soft seat. The compact design allows great versatility, while the large seat gives a pleasant cosy feeling. Providing a combination of full and empty spaces, it is an architecture that affects the space creating a harmonious balance between form and function. Originally created with a plexiglass shell, which was avant-garde for the time, today’s version reverses the direction towards the cabinetmakers’ world and expertise. Structure and upholstery An upholstered system with modular elements, made of veneered, brushed open grain curved birch plywood in black ash and dark stained walnut finishes. A hidden element hooking system. The backrest and seat cushions are in polyurethane foam with feather upholstery. The upholstery fabric enhances its softness, covers the sofa in all its parts and is completely removable. Possibility of purchasing additional cover upholstery. The following elements are available: seat module, pouf S and pouf M. Roberto Monsani started his professional career in Florence by designing homes and urban development plans in Tuscany. Between the 1970s and 1990s he designed commercial buildings and shops in Europe, America and Asia. In 1973, from the restructuring of a sales centre inside Palazzo...
