An impressive large-scale Moroccan Moorish pierced brass Pasha chandelier, handcrafted in Marrakech and inspired by the sumptuous Orientalist interiors associated with Alberto Pinto and other great 20th-century decorators. Two matching chandeliers are available, offering a rare opportunity for a symmetrical installation in a large dining room, gallery or double-height interior.” Measuring 33 inches in diameter, this dramatic chandelier has a broad, architectural silhouette reminiscent of an inverted crown or ceremonial Moroccan basin. Its generous proportions, elaborate metalwork and warm golden surface give it considerable presence whether illuminated or viewed simply as a sculptural decorative object. The chandelier is constructed from polished brass that has been meticulously hand-hammered, chased, pierced and worked in repoussé by Moroccan artisans. Thousands of small perforations form intricate arabesque and foliate patterns across the radiating panels, transforming the metal surface into delicate lace-like openwork. When illuminated, light filters through these pierced patterns, creating the atmospheric play of light and shadow for which traditional Moroccan lighting is celebrated. The upper perimeter is particularly elaborate, finished with a series of tall pierced palmette and arabesque cresting elements. These ornamental flourishes give the chandelier its distinctive Pasha-like grandeur and reinforce its connection to historic Moorish and Islamic architectural ornament. Set throughout the brass body are decorative milky-white hand-blown glass cabochons and elongated glass inserts. Their softly translucent surfaces contrast beautifully with the polished golden brass and become luminous accents when the chandelier is switched on. The lower portion terminates in a deeply modeled, pierced brass finial, completing the chandelier's symmetrical sculptural profile. Handcrafted in Marrakech, Morocco, circa 1980s, the chandelier represents the highly skilled metalworking traditions for which Moroccan decorative lighting is renowned. Each pierced opening and chased detail was individually worked, giving the fixture the subtle variations characteristic of artisan-made objects. The chandelier measures 32 inches high including the existing three-chain suspension × 33 inches in diameter. The decorative brass shade/body itself measures approximately 20 inches high. Additional chain can be supplied or added as required to accommodate different ceiling heights. The fixture has been rewired for use in the United States and is ready for professional installation. Its substantial 33-inch diameter makes it particularly suitable above a round dining table, in an entry hall, library, salon, bedroom or beneath a high ceiling. It would be equally compelling in a Mediterranean, Moorish, Spanish Colonial, Moroccan, Orientalist or sophisticated contemporary interior. Two chandeliers are currently available. Striking serving set of tureen with lid and underplate features ceramic or porcelain body with faux bamboo decor, forming a strong geometric trim in Chinese Chippendale style. Warm, buttery yellow colors of the bamboo trellises with mocha brown accents are meticulously hand-painted with great detail; the faux bamboo trellis, done in relief, stands out on white background. The lid has an opening for the serving utensils. The tureen and the underplate are marked with "Made in Italy" on the bottoms; the pieces are missing the distributor stickers. The Chinese Chippendale style was popular in Italy in 1960s, and fine examples of Italian designs were produced by multiple companies, including the luxury furniture company Vivai Del Sud, which made both furniture and decor items, such as lamps, in this style. We're attributing the set to Mottahedeh, who sourced high quality Italian majolica in similar styles; the pieces will be simply marked ITALY or "Made in Italy" and Mottahedeh will add their paper stickers. As the pieces are quite old, the stickers often get lost or destroyed. The tureen with its classic shape, detailed decor, and historically inspired design will blend quite well with many china and serverware patterns, both in traditional and more modern styles. A magnificent set of three French mid 20th century gilded brass marble top nesting tables attributed to Maison Baguès for Parisian design firm Maison Jansen. Finished in luxurious Louis XVI taste, each table graduated in size, having a striking dramatically white veined verde green marble oval shaped top, resting on a triangular shaped patinated gilt metal frame in brilliant bronze dore style finish, adorned in foliate relief trim to apron, floral medallions above tripartite stretcher-joined fluted legs, terminating on tapered feet. Dimensions: (approx) Largest: 17.25"H, 24.25"W, 14"D Since its establishment, circa 1860, Maison Baguès has been an emblem of French elegance and sophistication in luxury interior design, originally the finest lighting, expanding into the finest quality furniture and decorative accessories. Each piece the firm makes is hand-assembled using traditional techniques in order to emphasize the elegant excellence of their detailed artisanal work. Still the epitome of savoir-faire, Maison Baguès’ luxurious pieces are prized for their craftsmanship, beauty and harmony. The master metalsmith Noël Baguès founded the company as specialists in liturgical bronzes, but by 1880 the company had expanded into the production of bronze light fixtures in response to the development of electrical lighting. Carried on by Noël’s son Eugène and grandsons Victor and Robert, Maison Baguès continued to progress, adding intricately detailed iron lighting collections in the 1920s as well as stair banisters, gates and accessory tables. Baguès began selling internationally in the interwar period, expanding the company’s operation to New York, Rome and Cairo. Noted for their high-end handcrafted work, such as complex carved sconces and hand-strung crystal chandeliers, Maison Baguès appealed to an elite clientele. While Baguès’ Art Deco crystal lighting fixtures drew the most attention, the company was also known for bespoke metalwork that drew commissions from important interior designers and decorating firms such as Maison Jansen and Raymond Subes. In 1928, eminent bourgeoisie décorateur Armand-Albert Rateau famously used a selection of Maison Baguès accessories to furnish the townhouse interiors of haute couturist Jeanne Lanvin.
