Andy Warhol album cover art 1986 (Andy Warhol Debbie Harry)

By Andy Warhol

Located in NEW YORK, NY

1986 Andy Warhol record art featuring Debbie Harry. Featured prominently in 'Andy Warhol: The Record Covers, 1949-1987, a Catalog Raisonne' by Warhol scholar Paul Marechal. Off-set lithograph on vinyl record cover. 12 x 12 Inches (30.48 x 30.48 cm). Excellent condition. Includes original record (likewise excellent). Looks super cool framed. Further Background: Obsessed with celebrity, consumer culture, and mechanical reproduction, Pop Art king, Andy Warhol created some of the 20th century’s most iconic images. Warhol was widely influenced by popular & consumer culture, with this being evident in some of his most famous works: 32 Campbell's soup cans, Brillo pad box sculptures, and portraits of Marilyn Monroe & Mick Jagger, for example. Rejecting the standard painting and sculpting modes of his era, Warhol embraced silk-screen printmaking to achieve his characteristic hard edges and flat areas of color. The artist mentored Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat and continues to influence contemporary art around the world: His most bold successors include Richard Prince, Takashi Murakami, and Jeff Koons. Warhol has been the subject of exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, Tate Modern, and Centre Pompidou, among other institutions. Love is Love, 2021

By Ayse Wilson

Located in Westport, CT

Ayse Wilson is a Turkish-American artist who lives and lives and works in Connecticut. Her work draws from memory and emotion to remind viewers of youth, innocence and the timeless space we occupy when we are young. She creates lively and childlike characters, finding inspiration in the works of early Italian Renaissance masters such as Fra Angelico. Wilson graduated from Wellesley College in 1991, and pursued her education in Florence. She received her MFA at New York Academy of Art, and later worked as a painting assistant to Jeff Koons for two years. This current series employs the toile wallpaper samples that the artist had lying around her house during lockdown as a backdrop for ambiguous and complicated feelings toward quarantine and domestic confinement. In this work, she is hoping to narrate how fear of the pandemic unknown, coupled with household anxieties, and increased self-awareness contributed to the mixed emotions of security and hostility towards enforced domesticity within a masked world. The toile tradition represented a coincidental parallel with the COVID era rediscovery of old-fashioned pastoral lifestyles, and the embrace of self-reliant artisanal practices like cooking, gardening, sewing, and prescribed homeschooling. Her colorful inscriptions, some original, some appropriated, layer in our contemporary lifestyle, our modern methods of connectivity as well as our high-tech world. The punky playfulness of the neon and fluorescents contrasts with the backdrop of Fragonard-esque imagery and hopes to delivery her messages of love and connection, awareness and newness, hope and emotions, as well as the occasional glossily veiled hostility expressed in certain so-called “love” declarations. The phrases evolved from a previous series addressing the Me Too movement...

'Dali's Party' Estate Edition, ft Surrealist Salvador Dali in New York

By Slim Aarons

Located in Los Angeles, CA

1959: Surrealist painter Salvador Dali (1904 - 1989) with a red-haired woman in a green dress at a vintage ball in New York. The artist is captured with his characteristic walking stick and wearing a mustache, and the woman smiles with mischief, wearing extraordinary mid-century dress and jewels. In Dali's work and life, the magical, mysterious, artistic and alchemical mix. The vintage and classic mingles with the bizarre and strange in this historic photograph of an avant-garde legend. Dali's Party, 1959 (Salvador Dali in New York) Slim Aarons Estate Edition Photograph Lambda Print Estate Embossed with 2 Certificates of Authenticity Printed Later 4 sizes available Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, 1st Marquess of Dalí de Púbol gcYC (/ˈdɑːli, dɑːˈliː/;[1] Catalan: [səlβəˈðo ðəˈli]; Spanish: [salβaˈðoɾ ðaˈli];[2] 11 May 1904 – 23 January 1989) was a Spanish surrealist artist renowned for his technical skill, precise draftsmanship, and the striking and bizarre images in his work. Born in Figueres, Catalonia, Dalí received his formal education in fine arts in Madrid. Influenced by Impressionism and the Renaissance masters from a young age, he became increasingly attracted to Cubism and avant-garde movements. He moved closer to Surrealism in the late 1920s and joined the Surrealist group in 1929, soon becoming one of its leading exponents. His best-known work, The Persistence of Memory, was completed in August 1931, and is one of the most famous Surrealist paintings. Dalí lived in France throughout the Spanish Civil War (1936 to 1939) before leaving for the United States in 1940 where he achieved commercial success. He returned to Spain in 1948 where he announced his return to the Catholic faith and developed his "nuclear mysticism" style, based on his interest in classicism, mysticism, and recent scientific developments. Dalí's artistic repertoire included painting, graphic arts, film, sculpture, design and photography, at times in collaboration with other artists. He also wrote fiction, poetry, autobiography, essays and criticism. Major themes in his work include dreams, the subconscious, sexuality, religion, science and his closest personal relationships. To the dismay of those who held his work in high regard, and to the irritation of his critics, his eccentric and ostentatious public behavior often drew more attention than his artwork. His public support for the Francoist regime, his commercial activities and the quality and authenticity of some of his late works have also been controversial. His life and work were an important influence on other Surrealists, pop art and contemporary artists such as Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst. There are two major museums devoted to Salvador Dalí's work: the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, Spain, and the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. Over the course of a career lasting half a century, Slim Aarons (1916-2006) portrayed high society, aristocracy, authors, artists, business icons, the celebrated and their milieu. In doing so, he captured a golden age of wealth, privilege, beauty and leisure that occurred alongside—but quite separate from—the cultural and political backdrop of the second half of the Twentieth Century. The Slim Aarons Estate has released the limited Estate edition as a Lambda print, which is a modern c-type prints. They have chosen Lambda prints for their sharpness, clarity, colour saturation and quality, compared to archival inkjet prints. Lambda printing gives true continuous tone. Photograph is unframed Slide show includes a close-up of the Slim Aarons estate's stamp. Collector will get the next number in the edition * We are pleased to offer the entire archive of the Slim Aarons Estate, offering the official Slim Aarons Estate Edition (only offered in this edition of 150). Untitled (paint) #14, 2018

Untitled (paint) #14, 2018

By Ben Weiner

Located in Greenwich, CT

Untitled (Paint) #14 is an oil painting on canvas with a canvas size of 16 x 24 inches, signed, titled and dated on the overlap verso, 'Ben Weiner Untitled (Paint) #14 2018'' and framed in a contemporary white frame. Connecting two opposing styles—abstraction and photorealism—Ben Weiner creates hyper-detailed, lush paintings and videos of extremely magnified consumer products, including hair gel, chemical food additives, and deodorant. In his work, he presents such meticulously rendered, close-up views of his subjects that they read as pure abstractions. A through-line in Weiner’s various bodies of work is contemporary culture’s obsession with bodily enhancement through chemical products—whether by using hair products or taking illegal drugs. In Weiner's Paint series (depicting oil paint on a palette) he explores the upended relationship between process and product. Ben Charles Weiner (b. 1980) is a New York based contemporary artist. His work bridges the seemingly opposite styles of hyperrealism, and process-based abstraction. Mr. Weiner has exhibited his work widely in the US and internationally, at institutions including The Carnegie Art Museum, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, The Boca Raton Museum of Art, and The Tarble Art Center. His work is in public collections including Microsoft, Sammlung/Collection, Progressive Insurance, and The Frederick R. Weisman Collection...

Cover: Very good to excellent condition. Includes original record in excellent condition. Looks super cool framed. Andy Warhol album art: Further Background: In 1983 Warhol was commissioned to design the cover for the Japanese pop group's Rats & Star’s album ‘Soul Vacation’. Warhol has incorporated blocks of irregularly shaped color along with printed hand-drawn elements helping create a bold, vibrant image. The band’s name is a palindrome (it reads the same backwards and forwards) and originates in the belief that it is possible to be a rat, coming from a less prosperous background, and still become a star: a notion close to Warhol’s heart...

When Warhol arrived in New York he met with his schoolmate George Klauber who was, at the time, working for a creative agency run by Will Burtin. Klauber did Warhol a favour and introduced him to Burtin and the opportunity to work with Columbia’s, and later RCA’s, art director Robert M. Jones. Robert M. Jones remembered it fondly and suggested that the commissions may have been his first: “I gave him three little spots to do for the corners of the standard albums. He needed money...

Measurements: Frame: 19 x 19 x 1 inches Visible: 12 1/4 x 12 1/4 inches Sheet: 15 7/8 x 15 1/4 inches Peter Halley Biography Peter Halley was born in 1953 in New York. He began his formal training at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, from which he graduated in 1971. During that time, Halley read Josef Albers’s Interaction of Color (1981), which would influence him throughout his career. From 1973 to 1974 Halley lived in New Orleans, where he absorbed the vibrant cultural influences of the city, began using commercial materials in his art, and first became acquainted with the writings of earthwork artist Robert Smithson. In 1975 the artist graduated from Yale University, New Haven, with a degree in art history. After Yale, Halley returned to New Orleans, where he received an MFA in painting from the University of New Orleans in 1978. He had his first solo exhibition at the Contemporary Art Center, New Orleans, that same year. In 1978 Halley spent a semester teaching art at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. He has continued to teach throughout his career. In 1980, Halley moved back to New York and had his first solo exhibition in the city at PS122 Gallery. At this time, Halley was drawn to the pop themes and social issues addressed in New Wave music. Inspired by New York’s intense urban environment, Halley set out to use the language of geometric abstraction to describe the actual geometricized space around him. He also began his iconic use of fluorescent Day-Glo paint. In 1984, Halley started to exhibit with the International With Monument gallery, becoming closely associated with the organization and its artists, who exhibited conceptually rigorous work in a market-savvy, coolly presented space that stood in stark contrast to the bohemian, Neo-Expressionist flair of the East Village art scene at the time. In 1986, an exhibition of four artists from International With Monument at the Sonnabend Gallery in New York heralded the group’s growing success. By the late 1980s, Halley was exhibiting with prominent galleries in the United States and Europe. In 1989, an exhibition of his paintings traveled to the Museum Haus Esters, Krefeld, Germany; Maison de la culture et de la communication de Saint-Étienne, France; and Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. From 1991 to 1992, a retrospective toured Europe, with presentations at the CAPC Musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux, France; Musée d’art contemporain, Lausanne, Switzerland; Museo nacional centro de arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. In 1992, the Des Moines Art Center hosted his first solo exhibition at a U.S. museum. While developing his visual language, Halley became interested in French post-structuralist writers, including Jean Baudrillard, Guy Debord, Michel Foucault, and Paul Virillio, all of whom shared his concern with the character of social spaces in a post-industrial society. In 1981, he published his first essay “Beat, Minimalism, New Wave, and Robert Smithson” in Arts, a New York–based magazine that would publish eight of his essays before the decade’s end. Halley’s writings became the basis for Neo-Geometric Conceptualism (also known as Neo-Geo), the offshoot of Neo-Conceptualism associated with the work of Ashley Bickerton, Halley, and Jeff Koons. In 1988, the artist’s writings were anthologized in Collected Essays, 1981–1987, and again in 1997 in a second anthology, Recent Essays, 1990–1996. In the mid-1990s, Halley began to produce site-specific installations for museums, galleries, and public spaces. These characteristically brought together a range of imagery and mediums, including paintings, wall-size flowcharts, and digitally generated wallpaper prints. Halley has executed permanent installations at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, and the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University. In 2011, his installation of digital prints Judgment Day...

CCCLXV examples on velin pur chiffon de Rives, numbered XXVI to CCCXC. In addition, some examples marked H.C. were produced for the publisher and his friends. Additional notes: This exquisite engraving in colors by Salvador Dali (1904–1989), titled Jeune fille sur une corne de rhinoceros (Girl on Rhinoceros Horn), from the folio Dali illustre Casanova (Dali Illustrates Casanova), originates from the 1967 edition published by Cercle du Livre Précieux, Paris, and printed by Haasen, Boileau and Cappelle, Paris. The composition exemplifies Dali’s extraordinary command of classical engraving combined with his visionary Surrealist imagination, where erotic symbolism, meticulous draftsmanship, and psychological suggestion converge in an evocative interpretation of the literary world of Giacomo Casanova. In Jeune fille sur une corne de rhinocéros (Girl on Rhinoceros Horn), Dali juxtaposes the delicate female figure with the powerful, sharply pointed form of a rhinoceros horn, transforming their improbable encounter into an enigmatic meditation on desire, vulnerability, strength, and the subconscious mind. The rhinoceros horn, a recurring motif in Dali’s artistic vocabulary, reflects his fascination with natural geometry, mathematical proportion, and the symbolic possibilities of organic forms, while its suggestive shape introduces associations with fertility, virility, and primal instinct. These themes resonate with Casanova’s celebrated memoirs, whose accounts of romance, seduction, and intrigue provided Dali with a rich imaginative framework for exploring the complexities of human desire. Through his characteristic combination of technical precision, provocative symbolism, and imaginative ambiguity, Dali transforms the human figure and an extraordinary natural form into a psychologically charged exploration of sensuality, temptation, and the mysteries of human experience. Dali illustre Casanova (Dali Illustrates Casanova), published in Paris in 1967 by Cercle du Livre Précieux, represents a distinguished collaboration between Salvador Dali’s visionary Surrealist imagination and the literary legacy of Giacomo Casanova, the celebrated eighteenth-century Venetian adventurer, writer, and chronicler of European society. Conceived within the tradition of the French livre d’artiste, the publication unites original graphic works, literary narrative, and exceptional craftsmanship in a refined edition intended for collectors of fine art and illustrated literature. Casanova’s memoirs, renowned for their vivid accounts of romance, intrigue, travel, aristocratic society, and the complexities of human desire, provided Dali with a particularly fertile imaginative framework through which to explore his lifelong fascination with eroticism, symbolism, psychological transformation, and the irrational dimensions of human experience. Rather than approaching the literary subject through conventional illustration alone, Dali interprets the world of Casanova through his distinctive Surrealist vocabulary, transforming objects, figures, and symbolic motifs into enigmatic compositions that evoke the sensuality, theatricality, and psychological tensions of the narrative. Through its synthesis of eighteenth-century literary culture, Surrealist symbolism, original etching, and traditional French bookmaking, Dali illustre Casanova stands as an important expression of Dali’s engagement with the illustrated book and his ability to reinterpret historical literature through the imaginative possibilities of modern art. SALVADOR DALI (1904–1989) was a Spanish painter, draughtsman, printmaker, sculptor, designer, filmmaker, and writer whose astonishing technical virtuosity, theatrical imagination, and psychologically charged dream imagery established him as one of the most celebrated and recognizable artists of the twentieth century and one of the defining figures of the Surrealist movement. Born in Figueres in Catalonia, Spain, Dali demonstrated exceptional artistic talent at an early age and later studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, where he absorbed the traditions of Renaissance draftsmanship, Spanish Golden Age painting, and the radical visual innovations transforming modern European art. During this formative period he became aware of the revolutionary achievements of Pablo Picasso, whose Cubist experiments reshaped modern painting, while also engaging with the poetic symbolism of Joan Miro, the experimental photography of Man Ray, the conceptual provocations of Marcel Duchamp, the sculptural investigations of Alberto Giacometti and Alexander Calder, and the spiritual abstraction of Wassily Kandinsky. In the late 1920s Dali moved to Paris and joined the Surrealist circle led by Andre Breton, quickly distinguishing himself through his extraordinary technical skill and his ability to translate psychoanalytic ideas into unforgettable visual form. It was during this period that he developed the paranoiac-critical method, a process intended to access the subconscious through controlled irrational associations, enabling him to create images that shift between multiple interpretations and symbolic meanings. Through this method he produced some of the most iconic works of modern art, including The Persistence of Memory, The Great Masturbator, and Soft Construction with Boiled Beans, paintings that introduced imagery such as melting clocks, distorted landscapes, and dreamlike spaces rendered with the precision of Old Master painting. Throughout his prolific career Dali worked across painting, sculpture, printmaking, jewelry design, photography, theater, literature, and film, collaborating with figures such as Luis Bunuel on the landmark Surrealist film Un Chien Andalou, designing the dream sequence for Alfred Hitchcock’s film Spellbound, and even producing experimental animation with Walt Disney. Dali also became one of the twentieth century’s most prolific printmakers, producing extensive bodies of etchings, lithographs, and illustrated works that brought Surrealist imagery to collectors worldwide. His flamboyant public persona and instantly recognizable mustache made him a cultural icon, yet beneath the spectacle lay a disciplined artist deeply informed by art history, drawing inspiration from Renaissance and Baroque masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Velazquez, and Vermeer while pushing painting toward psychological and symbolic exploration. Dali’s imaginative universe influenced generations of artists across many disciplines, including Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Matthew Barney, and numerous contemporary painters, photographers, filmmakers, and designers exploring dream imagery, hyperrealism, symbolism, and the subconscious mind. Today his works are held in many of the world’s leading museum collections, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Tate in London, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Salvador Dali’s paintings, sculptures, drawings, and graphic works remain among the most recognizable and widely collected works of twentieth century art, and the highest auction record for a painting by Salvador Dali is Portrait de Paul Eluard (1929), which sold for 21,671,500 GBP at Sotheby’s London on February 10, 2011, confirming his lasting importance in the international art market and the continuing demand for his visionary works among collectors worldwide. Polychrome Gel #15 is an oil painting on canvas with a canvas size of 24 x 18 inches, signed, titled and dated on the overlap verso, 'Ben Weiner Polychrome Gel #15 2020'' and framed in a contemporary white frame. "The Gel Series presents a virtual environment that is in flux. Based on hair gel, a material that is physically malleable and visually enticing, it has the ability to change one’s physical appearance. In an abstract manner, the painting reflects our current global environment, subject to constant, dramatic change and rapid development- on the one hand through humanity’s ability to alter the face of the earth according to its ideas; on the other through changing environmental conditions and natural disasters". - Ben Weiner Ben Charles Weiner (b. 1980) is a New York based contemporary artist.
