Guirand de Scévola was a student of Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris. He then became a committee member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he also exhibited. He became an officer of the Légion d'Honneur in 1914. Making rigorous accuracy his main concern, he had a brilliant career as a society portrait artist. As such, his works became widely known. He painted portraits of a variety of subjects, including the Duke of Massa, Henri Farman, the Duchess of Uzès and the Duchess of Brissac.
