By Dipen Bose

Located in Kolkata, West Bengal

Rare Collectible by Bengal School Artist Artist : Dipen Bose Medium : Watercolours on paper Size : 7.5 x 5 inches Paintings on both sides of the paper. Extraordinary and Unique. Here the master artist shows very subtly the command he has over the brush. The dramatic effect that Monotone watercolours created, to play and tantalise all of our senses. Effortlessly executed, one cannot miss the expertise and uniqueness in the works. Even the less dense watercolours, speaks to its viewers. Its never been easier to connect with watercolours and its essence. Bengal Master Artist Dipen Bose (1921-1964)  Born in Calcutta, West Bengal. Education : Self-taught artist with no academic training in art. 1942 Completed Graduation, Calcutta. Grandfather, Nagendra Bose inspired him to start painting. "King of the Blues" - B.B. King Portrait in Watercolor and Ink on Paper

Located in Soquel, CA

Vibrant portrait entitled "King of the Blues" by John Martin Socha (American, 1913-1983). Bold and angular, this piece depicts an African-American man wearing a crown. Given the date of the piece (1955), it is likely a reference to B. B. King, who began topping the Billboard charts in 1953. The portrait is slightly abstracted, with ornamentation that adds detail and depth. Signed and dated "Socha 1955" in the lower left corner. Presented in a wood frame with a linen mat. Frame size: 17.5"H x 14.75"W Image size: 9.5"H x 6.5"W John Martin Socha (American, 1913-1983) was a painter and teacher from St. Paul, Minnesota. As a teenager, Socha studied with Diego Rivera and attended the Minneapolis School of Art. He later worked as a WPA artist in the 1930s, and Rivera’s influence can be seen in his murals. Socha then served in the US Army from 1943-1946 before attending the University of Minnesota in 1947. Socha’s work has won many awards and is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. Exhibited: Minnesota State Fair, 1938-40 (prize), 1941 (prize), 1942; Minneapolis Women's Club, 1938-42 (prize); Minneapolis IA, 1938-41, 1942 (prize), 1943-46; AIC, 1941-42; MMA, 1941-42; WMAA, 1942; NGA, 1940, 1942; Guatemala City, 1940; Mexico City, 1942; Walker Art Center, 1938, 1940, 1949 (prize); Davenport Municipal Art Gal., 1941; St Paul Art Gal., 1938-42; Denver Art Mus.; Univ. Otto Schubert Pen & Ink Fairy Tale

Otto Schubert Pen & Ink Fairy Tale

By Otto Schubert

Located in Paonia, CO

Otto Schubert Pen & Ink Fairy Tale is an original pen & ink sketch 1927 from one of the artist's illustrations for a fairy tale. There is a father and mother fox talking to two younger versions of themselves. They are all dressed in human clothes at the door of their house with smoke coming out of the chimney. Next to the house is a tree with a mountain in the background and another house in the distance. There is gardening equipment here and there. In the foreground we see sketches of a rabbit in different poses with some writing in German below the middle image. The artis'ts pencil signature is bottom right. A rare opportunity to own an original signed sketch by this artist. There is a wrinkle in the bottom right side otherwise normal wear and in fair condition. Karl Max Otto Schubert ( 1892-1970 ) was a rising star in Dresden when the city was considered the cultural center of Germany. In 1919 he founded the Dresdner Sezession Gruppe together with Oskar Kokoschka, Otto Dix, Conrad Felixmüller and others. Schubert was known for his portfolio of war lithographs...

Located in Milwaukee, WI

Signed with stamp, J.V. 7-5/8" x 4-3/4" art 19" x 15-1/4" frame Jacques Villon (French, 1875 - 1963) French painter, printmaker and illustrator. The oldest of three brothers who became major 20th-century artists, including Raymond Duchamp-Villon and Marcel Duchamp, he learnt engraving at the age of 16 from his maternal grandfather, Emile-Frédéric Nicolle (1830-94), a ship-broker who was also a much appreciated amateur artist. In January 1894, having completed his studies at the Lycée Corneille in Rouen, he was sent to study at the Faculty of Law of the University of Paris, but within a year he was devoting most of his time to art, already contributing lithographs to Parisian illustrated newspapers such as Assiette au beurre. At this time he chose his pseudonym: Jack (subsequently Jacques) in homage to Alphonse Daudet’s novel Jack (1876) and Villon in appreciation of the 15th-century French poet François Villon...
