In 1939, Lucien Boucher, a renowned French artist and illustrator, created a captivating map for Air France titled "Nova et Vetera", which translates to "New and Old" in Latin. This original lithographic poster is a remarkable fusion of vintage cartographic art and modern aviation, crafted as a promotional piece for the airline. It beautifully symbolizes the connection between the historic routes of exploration and the new ones made possible by air travel. Boucher was celebrated for his unique ability to combine the romanticism of classic maps with the sleek, modern spirit of 20th-century flight. Among his series of illustrated maps for Air France, "Nova et Vetera" stands out with its nostalgic allure and references to history. 1972 travel poster by French artist Despierre for the SNCF and the Loire Valley

By Jacques Despierre

Located in PARIS, FR

The 1972 travel poster designed by French artist Despierre for the SNCF (French National Railway Company) promoting tourism to the Loire Valley captures an important era in French travel culture. During the 1970s, there was a renewed focus on showcasing the natural beauty and cultural heritage of regions like the Loire Valley, which is renowned for its stunning landscapes, historic châteaux, and vineyards. At the time, SNCF was deeply invested in promoting rail travel as an accessible and comfortable way to explore France's picturesque regions, encouraging both domestic and international tourists to discover the country’s rich history. The Loire Valley, often referred to as the "Garden of France," was a prime destination, offering visitors a blend of historical landmarks such as Château de Chambord, Château de Chenonceau, and cultural experiences that included local wines and cuisine. Despierre’s collaboration with SNCF reflects the French tradition of integrating fine art into commercial advertising, blending both functionality and aesthetics. Travel posters from this era were designed not only to inform but to inspire a sense of wanderlust, often romanticizing the experience of train travel and the destinations themselves. By highlighting a region as picturesque and historically significant as the Loire Valley, the SNCF poster campaign sought to tap into France’s rich cultural identity while also promoting tourism infrastructure. This 1972 poster...

Life - New York City Original Aerial View Oil Painting on Canvas by Albert Vidal

By Albert Vidal Moreno

Located in Chicago, IL

This painting of New York City's Chrysler Building captures a wide swath of Manhattan from an areal view. Using palette knife and brush Albert Vidal manages to combine realist painting with abstraction. Splashes of bright blue, red and green paint graffiti the surface in a Jackson Pollack like effect. The numbers at the bottom of the painting represent the artist's signature. This artwork is framed in a simple black wood float. Albert Vidal Life, 2015 oil on linen 52h x 52w in Albert Vidal is an aerial urban landscapes painter based in Barcelona, Spain. He has painted mostly landscapes from around the world for over 20 years and is inspired by artists such as Antonio Lopez Garcia and Anselm Kiefer. The artist thinks about his compositions in a three dimensional way with paint relief that creates dimension and body in the piece. The emptiness which represents a sea or wasteland keep the balance of the composition as well as the ensemble. The artificial space Vidal creates evolves over time and explores the difference between cities, urban planning, and their structures. INDIVIDUAL EXIBITIONS albert vidal February. 1962 original poster for BEA (British European Airways) - Tower of London

Located in PARIS, FR

The 1962 original poster for BEA (British European Airways), titled "Londres: The Tower of London", was created as part of a campaign to promote London as a prime destination for international tourists. The poster specifically highlighted the Tower of London, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, as a symbol of England’s rich history and cultural significance. During the 1960s, British European Airways played a pivotal role in shaping modern air travel within Europe and beyond. This poster was part of their effort to combine the allure of travel with the timeless appeal of London's historic sites. The Tower of London, with its storied past as a royal palace, prison, and treasury, was an ideal subject to attract history enthusiasts and travelers seeking a quintessentially British experience. The choice of the Tower of London as the focal point of this campaign underscored the growing interest in cultural tourism during the post-war era. As more people gained access to affordable air travel, cities like London sought to position themselves as must-visit destinations, offering a blend of historical charm and cosmopolitan appeal. BEA’s marketing strategy with this poster aligned with their broader mission of connecting travelers to Europe’s most captivating destinations. The Tower of London, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of resilience and intrigue, served as a powerful emblem of what London had to offer. Today, this 1962 BEA poster...

The 1977 original poster by the Soviet artistic collective Koukryniksy reflects their renowned style of sharp political caricature and satire. Active from the 1920s to the 1970s, Koukryniksy, consisting of Mikhail Kupriyanov, Porfiry Krylov, and Nikolai Sokolov, produced some of the most influential propaganda of the 20th century. This piece addresses themes of anti-racism and anti-fascism, created during a period when Cold War tensions were high, and Soviet propaganda aimed to critique Western colonialism and racism. It was part of the USSR's broader messaging to inspire solidarity with global equality movements and expose perceived moral failings of rival nations. The poster employs bold symbolism and caricature to deliver a strong political message in line with the collective’s tradition of impactful satire. Today, works by Koukryniksy are valued as historical artifacts, offering insight into Soviet perspectives during the Cold War. This 1977 poster remains a sought-after piece for collectors interested in propaganda art...
