About the artist:
Born in Chicago in 1961, Monaghan received his MFA from the University Northern Illinois. He moved west to Sonoma County in his mid-twenties and starting showing in galleries in San Francisco in the early 1990's, his move having a profound impact on his painting. The first impression of that sparkle on water upon the great lakes in Chicago continue his drive to seek out natural beauty in the landscape. Monaghan has had regional acclaim and International showing, include, International Art Fairs in San Francisco in 2011 and 2012.

About the artist:
François Burland (1958) was born in Lausanne (Switzerland). He began drawing in self-taught fashion at the end of his adolescence. He undertook a first trip to Egypt's Sinai Peninsula at the age of twenty. A few years later, he encountered the Tuaregs in the Sahara Desert. Enthused by their nomadic lifestyle, he began returning to the region regularly over some thirty years. During his long stays with the Tuaregs, he shared their daily life, including their dromedaries and witchcraft, but also their 4x4s, mobiles and kalachnikovs.
This creator has produced an abundant and varied oeuvre. Depending on each series and on his inspiration of the day, he avails himself of a number of techniques and materials. For his drawings, he prefers to use wrapping paper as a support: he applies pastels, colored pencil and white chalk to very large surfaces. His creations bring to mind shamanic art...

It is part of Bouton’s "Habitat and Urban Matter" series, which is inspired by the straight lines of modernist architecture and hard-edged geometrical forms of the urban environment. Bouton, a French printmaker from Paris who has also lived in London, Myanmar, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Turkey, creates work that responds to her experiences during her travels and the cultures she encountered. Since settling in the Philadelphia area, she has been inspired by the urbanism of the city, whether a sleek, new apartment block, an abandoned warehouse, or a half-demolished home. Her latest works are interpretations of these buildings, with both broad street views and focused details from single structures –- the pattern of the skyline, a patchwork of broken windows, an industrial color palette. She is drawn to the history of the spaces and lives lived within these buildings, as well as their intrinsic beauty of the structures, whether that beauty emerges from design or degradation, or some combination of the two. This artwork, titled "Aerial IV" c.1980 is a monotype with chine colle and embossing on heavy paper by noted Canadian artist Janet Jones b.1952. It is hand signed and titled in pencil by the artist. It is numbered “1/1-20”. I believe this indicates the artist did 20 impressions of the monotype, and that no two are alike. There are three levels of paper. The printed part with a plate that measures 8 x 8 inches (9x9 inches the sheet) is on thin Japon paper. It is mounted to another thin pastel colored sheet measuring 12 x 12 inches. This, in turn, is mounted to heavy paper similar to Arches measuring 22.25 x 18 inches It is in very good condition with some faint rippling on the left and right edges, and has never been framed.
About the artist:
Janet Jones was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1952. She received her BFA in painting and photography from Concordia University - studying painting with Guido Molinari and Yves Gaucher, and photography with the experimental photographer Suzanne Swibold.
Janet Jones is currently a Toronto based painter whose work has been exhibited across Canada, in Los Angeles, New York, England, Germany, France and China. Her recent projects include; the solo exhibition, The Dream Machine at Patrick Mikhail Gallery, Montréal (2017), two solo exhibitions, Playtimes (2015) and Joyride (2012) both at Katzman Contemporary Toronto, a national touring exhibition of her paintings, DaDa Delirium, with an accompanying catalogue (2011) with essays by Stuart Reid, Nell Tenhaaf and an interview with the artist by Georgiana Uhlyarik, and participation in the Empire of Dreams exhibition, MOCCA (Summer 2010) curated by David Liss. Jones has been a visiting artist in France, England, Russia, China, the Netherlands, and Cuba.
Jones received her MFA from York University and her PhD from New York University in the area of art theory and criticism. Her dissertation titled: Clement Greenberg and the Artist /Critic Relationship, included interviews with Clement Greenberg, Jules Olitski, and other members of the ‘Greenberg Group’ and research gained through accompanying Greenberg on numerous studio visits.
A Professor in the Department of Visual Arts, York University, Toronto, where she teaches painting, she has been Chair of the Department of Visual Arts and Director of the MFA Program in Visual Arts.

This artwork "Untitled #1" is a colors monotype on Arches paper by Dutch artist Frans Horbach. It is hand signed and dated in pencil by the artist. The image (plate mark) is 19.65 x 19.65 inches, sheet size is 35.5 x 24.75 inches. It is in excellent condition, the colors are fresh and bright, has never been framed.
About the artist:
Born in Holland, Dutch artist Frans Horbach first visited New York when he was 17 years old, traveling on a cargo ship from Rotterdam, just as his fellow country man Willem de Kooning had done years before. Two years later he left Holland and emigrated to California.
During the years that he lived and worked as a professional artist in America, one of the main sources of artistic influence came from artists belonging to what is now known as the New York school of American lyrical abstract expressionist art - Rothko, Pollock, De Kooning... He was attracted by their ideas, style of work, and more importantly, by their vital energy and uninhibited self-confidence.
Horbach's work also was influenced, more subtely perhaps, by his contact with indigeneous Indian people during his journeys in the American South-West and Mexico. These encounters were a rich source of inspiration - they became integral to a philosophical framework which involved the appreciation of physical space in a poetic and artistic sense. In later years, as the result of his long-time interest in oriental art and philosophy, some of his work show a distinct affinity with the aesthetic sensibilities of traditional Japanse...
