Bright and bold abstract monotype by Dutch-American artist Anouk Johanna (b. 1946). Two abstracted human-like dark grey shapes are mirror images of each other, surrounded in a multicolored background. Anouk Johanna (Dutch, b. 1946) grew up in Amsterdam Holland and already knew as a young child she was going to be an artist. In Amsterdam she was exposed to world class art and early on she showed signs of a multitude of talents in visual as well as performing arts. Her parents fully supported and encouraged her.
She studied drama as well as costume and textile design and was part of a traveling theater group before she started studying sculpture at the prestigious Rietveld Akademie.
In 1969 she was offered an opportunity to travel to the USA to study sculpture at the Brooklyn Museum Art School in Brooklyn, New York. There she met and married an American sculptor. They traveled and lived all over the US and in Holland and had two daughters. In Amsterdam they bought an old sailboat where they lived a romantic life as true bohemian artists and made art even when the children were very small.
In 1971 they moved back to New York City and Johanna created large fiber art wall hangings for several years.
In 1975 her husband and she, now living in L.A., learned to be silversmiths and started selling their jewelry at Arts and Crafts Fairs. This was a more lucrative way to raise a family than as sculptors. It was at the Californian Art Fairs that they were first introduced to the art of "scrimshaw" (engraving and inking of images on ivory or bone) and began to create their own scrimshaw pieces happy to be able to combine sculpture and drawing skills.
In 1980, after a divorce, Johanna settled with her daughters in Santa Cruz, CA where she started taking classes at Cabrillo College and studied painting, drawing, jewelry, printmaking and art history while continuing to sell her scrimshaw jewelry...

Newton's 'Cyberwomen' ride the boarder between empowerment and exploitation with unabashed sexuality; the thick, sticky scent of sensuality drips casually from the lines and curves of every subject. Yet his nudes lift the female body far from simple life studies or artist's muse, to hold an altogether more potent self presence. Brimming with rebellious attitude through scowling faces, dangerous situations or awkward stances, they are moody, dramatic and powerful. Available for sale; this academic life drawing of a male nude is by the German artist Eduard Braun and dates from around 1826.
The drawing is presented and supplied in an interesting configuration with a modern twist (which is shown in these photographs). The drawing has been float mounted between two sheets of Tru Vue Museum Glass® UV99 so that the wall or setting behind the hanging is visible and therefore provides the surround for the artwork.
This antique drawing is in very good condition, commensurate with its age. It wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display.
The drawing is not signed but came from a portfolio of drawings by Eduard Braun. This drawing has a later annotation and presumably a dedication in red ink in the bottom left hand corner. The annotation is the monogram HL within a heart. The configuration of the HL resembles the format used by the French artist Henri Laurens 1885 – 1954 where the downstroke of the L is merged with the second downstroke of the H.
This stunning original pencil and charcoal drawing on paper is by a German artist called Eduard Braun. He was born in 1798 and died in 1876, but little else is known about him apart from the fact that he was active in the Paris art salons and rooms.
This drawing is from a portfolio by this artist on a similar theme and is typical of the type of academic study undertaken by serious art students throughout the nineteenth century. One of the other drawings in this portfolio is annotated as being created in 1826 and there is every reason to think that this drawing is contemporaneous with that.
The drawing is of a very high standard, capturing both strength and sensitivity, showcasing the artist’s ability to reproduce a lifelike image of a nude model.
The subject of this drawing is a young man, possibly in his mid-twenties, with a toned and muscular body. He is standing with his weight on his right leg, which is slightly bent, and holding a wooden staff in his right hand. His left foot is raised slightly with the toes pointed, and his left hand is placed behind his back. Although he is facing fully towards the viewer, his gaze is to his left. He has pleasant, serene expression on his face. The background is bare, save for the shadow cast by the model.

Yuri Larin, also Yuriy Larin (1936–2014) is a Russian painter and graphic artist, a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1977. Larin was born in Moscow to the family of a key Soviet political leader, Nikolay Bukharin, and Anna Larina. Following the arrests of his parents in 1938 and until 1946, he lived with his relatives, and following the arrest of his step-father, he was taken to an orphanage near Stalingrad. A hydraulic engineer by training, he worked at the construction of the Saratov Hydro-Electric Plant and at design institutions. In 1960, he began his studies at the department of drawing and painting of the Krupskaya People’s University of Arts, and then, from 1965 until 1970, he studied at the department of art design at the Moscow State Higher School of Arts and Industry (the former Stroganov Institution). His career as a professional artist began in the early 1970s. From 1970 until 1986, he taught at the Moscow 1905 Memorial Arts School. His letter to prof. Vittorio Strada sent in 1980 contained the first statement of his artistic method he would later dub the “concept of the limit state”. He quit teaching after a serious illness, when he lost the ability to use his right hand. He only worked with his left hand since 1986. He died and was buried in Moscow.

Claus Sievert, (American, 1949–2009) nicknamed “The Tree Guy," was a German-born American printmaker and illustrator, who studied etching in an art college in Brunswick, Germany, in 1971. He began his career as an art teacher in Germany, teaching printmaking, art history, advertising design, and visual communication, and became a full-time artist in 1981.
Sievert created limited-edition etchings from copper plates and a hand-turned press which he then individually hand-colored.
Sievert’s work won awards, illustrated a children’s book by Leo Tolstoy, was commissioned by the Sierra Club and Golden Gate National Recreation Area to illustrate their publications, and he had his images published in several calendars. After his arrival from Columbus, Ohio in 1904, Bellows lived at the West Side YMCA. It was there that he met Eugene Speicher, another aspiring young artist who was to become his lifelong friend. Always interested in the anatomy of the human body, Bellows often satirized the various types who, while leading a sedentary life, feel compelled to devote a portion of their daily routine to physical self-improvement.
Throughout his brief but illustrious career, George Wesley Bellows created striking scenes that documented ordinary American life in all its beauty and banality. Considered an American Realist, the artist eschewed embellishment, finding inspiration in the gritty boroughs of New York City, the rocky coastline of Maine, and, later, in his friends and family. Bellows garnered early recognition for his arresting portrayals of illegal prizefighting, dramatic works executed in dark tonal palettes that underscore the brutality of the violent sport.
Bellows’ elderly Methodist parents hoped their son might pursue the ministry, a calling the extroverted athlete never received. The Columbus native competed on the baseball team at Ohio State University and also served as an illustrator for the college yearbook. In the fall of 1904—just months shy of his expected graduation—Bellows defied his father’s wishes and boarded a train to New York City in hopes of becoming a magazine illustrator like his idols Howard Chandler Christy and Charles Dana Gibson. Before leaving, he reportedly turned down an offer to play professional baseball with the Cincinnati Reds...

Frank Schott grew up in Germany and attended the prestigious Academy of Arts in Cologne, studying under Professor Arno Jansen, who was an early influence.
Moving to California in 1998, Schott's work has evolved to include the epic landscapes and deserts of the American West as well as architectural, conceptual and more formal environments from both home and his travels.
Influenced by a number of photographic peers and precursors such as Candida Höfer, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Jeff Wall, Hiroshi Sugimoto, William Eggleston and Joel Sternfeld, Schott's images successfully blend technical, conceptual and formal rigor with a decisive sense of composition and color.
Schott's images have an iconic sensibility and give us a bird's eye view onto humanity and its constructs. The specific is edged towards the abstract, often revealing the compelling and disjunctive moment where nature meets man.
Frank Schott was born in Cologne, Germany in 1962. He currently lives and works in San Francisco.

Eric is a Belgian artist born in 1965. He gained a Degree in Photography from INFAC, Brussels in 1987. Since then he has been a fashion photographer working with many of the top houses. Elle, Marie-Claire, L'Oréal, Levi's, Coca Cola, Virgin, Saab, Delvaux, Lowe Lintas and Ogilvy are some of his clients.
Among other distinctions, his photography for the Saab cabrio 9-3 campaign was awarded the Silver Lion at the Cannes International Advertising Festival.
Eric is set apart from many of his colleagues by his way of shunning technical artifice and working in natural light. This results in soft, velvety, almost painterly images.
Nowadays in his artistic works, he captures women's essence and soul, transcending mere physical representation.
