"Mountain Path" Japanese landscape painting mineral pigments on silk nature
Located in Kowloon, Hong Kong
Mountain Path is a 2020 landscape work by Maki Kuchida. This is a much sought-after landscape work by Maki, demonstrating her delicate painting skills with so much details in one work - the nature environment, trees with various forms and shapes, flowers, the river and the colorful coyotes as if all inside a mirage of the mountain. The mountain path leads you into a stage where the sky and the earth merge into one universe, the realm of the soul. Maki combines the Japanese landscape painting technique with the Chinese one thus her landscape work is unique in its own way. Coyotes are mascots that appear very often in Maki's landscape paintings. The painted size of the work is approx. 54 x 38cm, while the framed size is approx. 74x58cm. It is framed with archival grade mount. There will be a certificate of authenticity issued with your acquisition. Maki's paintings may seem deceptively simple at first but indeed the colors and texture are achieved through a labor-intensive and time-consuming process as painting on silk for one color requires at least 8 layers of pigments. Maki paints using mineral pigments on...

Brocade: Bootas (Motifs) - Embroidered Tapestry Wall Hanging
Located in Asheville, NC
Brocade: The royal courts of the Maharajas of India were symbols of extravagance. The opulent Brocade or Zari textile was used lavishly to ornament the interiors. Brocade is a heavy weight drape, woven in intricate raised patterns of motifs or all over floral scrolls. What grants this fabric its royal stature is the use of gold and silver metal threads to weave the designs. These wall panels depict the rich affluent luxury of the Brocade. Gold corded thread embroidered on deep plush velvet creates raised patterns. The artwork is designed to exaggerate the opulence. A note on handmade: A handmade product is always appealing due to the irregularities in its workmanship. This is what sets it apart from machine made or computerized; the perfection they offer feels synthetic or artificial. Especially when one speaks of art and craft. These wall panels are works of hand worked embroideries. Imperfections such as an occasional puckering of the base material are expected with the kind of embroidery stitches used. You are assured these artworks are embroidered by highly skilled artisans (it is not possible for craftsmen of lesser experience to create these pieces) The materials used for the embroideries are of superior quality only. charcoal on paper mounted to silk foam core and wood Mark Pomilio’s work focuses on the research of fractals, cloning, and single cell manipulation. His mathematics-based drawings serve as a metaphor for naturally occurring systems of reproduction and growth. When Pomilio begins a piece, he doesn’t know where it will lead; although his tools and marks are precise, the layering, repetition, rotation, and distribution of basic shapes are improvised to emulate a single cell dividing and compounding into a complex form. The process of cell growth influences Pomilio’s practice and is emphasized through his own process, the use of erasure, faint outlines, opacity and translucency, and deliberate marks. The resulting compositions are balanced, unified, and harmonious. His work is included in the collections of the University of Arizona Museum of Art, Baylor University Martin Museum of Art, Dupont Corporation, University of Michigan...

"Protected" Photograph Printed on Silk with Hand Stitched Embellishments, Framed
Located in St. Louis, MO
Luanne Rimel is an artist, curator, instructor, and currently the Director of Education Programs at Craft Alliance Art Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Her work is layered with historical dialogue and tactile intrigue through both technique and concept. Rimel prints her original photography on repurposed flour-sack cloths using a wide-format inkjet printer. Detailed sections of the image are created and layered, collaged and hand stitched onto the cloth, referencing earlier domestic practices of mending and repair, reuse and repurposing. The delicate, repetitive hand quilting across the surface creates shadows and textures and alludes to the marking of time. Her photographic imagery and textile work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including Japan, China and Korea, and is in many private and corporate collections. Her work is traveling in Quilt National 2013 and was in QN 2011. She has exhibited in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 Smithsonian Craft Shows. Her work will also be included in the new book, Art Quilts of the Midwest, published by the University of Iowa Press.
