Tree of Life - Embroidered Tapestry Wall Hanging
Located in Asheville, NC
Tree of Life One ancient mythical symbol appears across various cultures as the esoteric Tree of Life. The Tree represents life's abundance and immortality. The cosmic mountain is often depicted as the highest point on earth where heaven and earth meet, where Gods dwell; the Tree stands atop it. Specific trees are held sacred and worshipped as the Tree of Life by the different cultures, and it does not bode well to cut the Peepal in India, Bodhi (Peepal) in Buddhist countries, Cyprus in Iran etc. About: "Art is just perception. The first glance is an emotion, your emotion. The title of the canvas is read after that."- Shabbir Merchant...

Jaali: Phulwari (Flower Garden) - Embroidered Tapestry Wall Hanging
Located in Asheville, NC
Jaali: Jaali' of Urdu origin meaning netting, is an ornamental open work originally crafted on wood, metal and stone for interiors. A significant feature of Indo-Islamic art, the Jaali is an intricate pattern ranging from delicate trellises to complex floral layouts. The wall panels depict the interlacing design of the Jaali in mid earth tones on silk. The compositions of flowers and the paisley are embroidered in thread with subtle highlightes of shine. A note on handmade: A handmade product is always appealing due to the irregularities in its workmanship. This is what sets it apart from machine made or computerized; the perfection they offer feels synthetic or artificial. Especially when one speaks of art and craft. These wall panels are works of hand worked embroideries. Imperfections such as an occasional puckering of the base material are expected with the kind of embroidery stitches used. You are assured these artworks are embroidered by highly skilled artisans (it is not possible for craftsmen of lesser experience to create these pieces) The materials used for the embroideries are of superior quality only. Jamavar: Ecru - Embroidered Tapestry Wall Hanging
Located in Asheville, NC
Jamavar The Jamavar of Kashmir is an exquisite heritage textile of India. The original Jamavar was a yard-long shawl of pashmina wool with delicate patterns handwoven in multicolored silk weft threads. Its authentic designs are finely intricate, imparting gentle aristocracy with its most outstanding and popular motif being the elongated teardrop, originally called 'buteh'. The 'buteh' is what one now recognizes as the 'paisley'. These artworks are compositions of the timeless 'buteh' of the Jamavar. The wall panels are embroidered with fine thread cords couched along the pattern. Brocade: Bootas (Motifs) - Embroidered Tapestry Wall Hanging
Located in Asheville, NC
Brocade: The royal courts of the Maharajas of India were symbols of extravagance. The opulent Brocade or Zari textile was used lavishly to ornament the interiors. Brocade is a heavy weight drape, woven in intricate raised patterns of motifs or all over floral scrolls. What grants this fabric its royal stature is the use of gold and silver metal threads to weave the designs. These wall panels depict the rich affluent luxury of the Brocade. Gold corded thread embroidered on deep plush velvet creates raised patterns. The artwork is designed to exaggerate the opulence. Untitled Mod Op Art 1967 Painting on Silk
Located in Surfside, FL
Label from Obelisk Gallery verso. Henry C. Pearson (October 8, 1914 – December 3, 2006) was an American abstract and modernist painter. Pearson was born in Kinston, North Carolina, graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1938, and studied theatrical design at Yale University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Second World War, designing maps for the Okinawa campaign, and then re-enlisted to serve in the US occupation of Japan, where he was influenced by Japanese art and theatre forms. Henry Pearson is perhaps best known for a mildly optical manner of painting, featuring a mutable labyrinth of undulating parallel lines, which somewhat inadvertently linked him to the Op Art movement of the 1960s. Although included in the Museum of Modern Art's landmark exhibition The Responsive Eye in 1965, his work displays an intuitive rhythm and poetic elegance that falls well outside of the calculated, often hard-edged quality normally associated with the Op group of artists. Pearson came late to the visual arts. His first career, in theatre design, was cut short by the Second World War. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942, and at war's end requested duty in occupied Japan, where a prolonged contact with Japanese culture nurtured a passion for painting. Upon his discharge from the army, in 1953, he enrolled in the Art Students League in New York City, where he studied with, among others, Reginald Marsh and Will Barnet. Inspired by Malevich, he turned to rectilinear abstraction, and employed it as the dominant means of expression in his painting between 1954 and 1961. As early as 1959, however, sensing an incipient decadence in his geometric canvases...

Korean Hanging Scroll of Bamboo, Prunus, and Orchids
Located in Chicago, IL
This Korean hanging scroll from the mid-20th century honors traditional calligraphy painting with delicate detail and a refined composition, thought to inspire clear and concise thinking. Expressing the beauty and resilience of nature’s flora, ink calligraphy artists traditionally select plants and flowers as the subjects of their works, each chosen for its auspicious meaning, literary resonance, or scholarly virtue. This particular example depicts a quiet natural landscape of three plants growing side-by-side along a rocky hill. Strong bamboo stalks sway above a branch of delicate prunus branches, while elegant orchids blossom in the foreground. Each painted by a different artist, these sacred plants represent the cycle of the seasons: the plum blossom for winter, the orchid for spring, and the bamboo for summer. Brushed with black ink for a monochromatic expression, the painting relies on value rather than color to convey depth and texture within this simple setting. The collaborative painting is contrasted by a beautiful blue silk brocade border woven with a repeating pattern of blossoms and vines. Each plant is signed individually in ink along with the artist’s seal. Painting has been remounted. Includes a wooden scroll...
