This abstract minimalist painting is made with repurposed pieces of found fabrics in complementary tones of teal, indigo, and beige on an encaustic white background. The fabrics, which are adhered to a light wood Birch panel and layered with a subtle layer of encaustic, are arranged in a whimsical motif that accentuates the spontaneous dyed patterns. The layers of fabric and encaustic create a textured, impasto surface.

Lauren Ohlgren (American, b. 1959) began her art career in the mid 1990’s making hand-painted silk and art-to-wear. She then began to work in encaustics, and later incorporated various mixed media into her artwork. Ohlgren was the curator of Journal 365, A Page A Day community project in 2015 and The She Project, 2005-2013. Ohlgren is also the author of 2005 award winning book, The She Project; How ‘She’ Inspired a Community.

Sylvia Torres, was born in California, one will find the ocean, sky and mountains reflected in her work. She also spent several years in Texas, where she attended the University of Houston, studied commercial art and became the Art Director at several advertising agencies.
