Inspiration for this triptych work is derived from a photograph made in Iceland and Norse origin mythology. Borr was the husband of Bestia and they had three sons Odin, Vili, and Ve. According to the legend, these three sons made heaven and earth. The Schinkel's work has underpinnings from a photograph they made at sunset from behind Icelandic waterfall Seljalandsfoss. The artists use of color fields gives rise to new beginnings and sparks timeless majestic feelings.
The artists use their original artists process to achieve the illusion of three dimensions on 2D aluminum sheet metal. This mixed media work was made with the original artist process known known as Metalagram®. It was developed at the intersection of art + science, and old world skills + 21st century technology. The artists create sculpturally in layers rendering the dimensional interactive appearance viewers experience. The Metalagram® works appear differently from 180 degree vantage points and at varying angles of incidence as photons dance across the work.

One particular memory he has is of a plywood sign featuring the figure of a man hoisting a barbell over his head, an advertisement for a local gym. As months passed, the sign splintered to near oblivion, first the figure’s legs, then his head and arms, and finally, most of his torso disappeared as the fighting smoldered on. After retiring from rugby in the early 1980s, he discovered the work of sculptor Albert Feraud. Discussions with the artist inspired him to pursue his own art practice, working scraps of abandoned steel into fluid, curvaceous forms.
In his frequently monumental work, the softness of the curve is juxtaposed against the hardness of the material. Rives says about his practice, "I always seek to bring 'lightness' to the ‘heavy'; romanticism and poetry to the rigid; and sculpt an industrial masterpiece that harnesses innovation with energy.
