Beak to Beak
Located in Fort Lauderdale, FL
About the Artwork: Signed: Recto, bottom right The artist's desire to illuminate his works was the impetus for the Glowbox series. Inspired by the luminescence and light quality of blown glass, each acrylic painting on a plex substrate is internally lit by a custom-designed LED light box with a controllable dimmer switch. About the Artist: Inspired by nature and his 60 pet birds, Hunt Slonem is renowned for his distinct neo-expressionist style. He is best known for his series of bunnies, butterflies and tropical birds, as well as his large-scale sculptures and restorations of forgotten historic homes. Slonem’s works can be found in the permanent collections of 250 museums around the world, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Whitney, the Miro Foundation and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Since his first solo show at the Fischbach Gallery in 1977, Slonem’s work has been showcased internationally hundreds of times, most recently at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. In 2017 and 2018, he was featured by the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Gallery in Bulgaria, and in countless galleries across the United States and around the world. His flair and admiration for far-flung destinations has been a staple of his life since childhood. Slonem was born in 1951 in Kittery, Maine, and his father’s position as a Navy officer meant the family moved often during Hunt’s formative years, including extended stays in Hawaii, California and Connecticut. He would continue to seek out travel opportunities throughout his young-adult years, studying abroad in Nicaragua and Mexico; these eye-opening experiences imbued him with an appreciation for tropical landscapes that would influence his unique style. After graduating with a degree in painting and art history from Tulane University in New Orleans, Slonem spent several years in the early 1970s living in Manhattan. It wasn’t until Janet Fish offered him her studio for the summer of 1975 that Slonem was able to fully immerse himself in his work. His pieces began getting exhibited around New York, propelling his reputation and thrusting him into the city’s explosive contemporary arts scene. He received several prestigious grants, including from Montreal’s Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Cultural Counsel Foundation’s Artist Project, for which he painted an 80-foot mural of the World Trade Center in the late 1970s. He also received an introduction to the Marlborough Gallery, which would represent him for 18 years. Hunt Slonem tends to embrace the ephemeral beauty of nature, a characteristic that brings a nurturing, spiritual effect to his creations. Throughout his extensive career as a New York artist, Slonem has favored the subject of exotic birds, rabbits, and butterflies. Lately, his compositions have consisted of flat spaces with simple forms pushed to the front of the picture plane. The artist creates exotic forms with expressive and highly textural brushstrokes that are full of intense color, loosely inspired by artists of the German Expressionism movement such as Ernst Ludwig and Emil Nolde. Henry Geldzahler, a scholar of Hunt Slonem, notes that of contemporary artists, “he particularly admires the work of Malcolm Morely, Francesco Clemente and Roberto Juarez, all exoticists whose works convey a spiritual aura. Lest we leave the impression, belied by the paintings that Slonem is all depth and piety, we should note that there is a remarkable levity in his work, a lightness of being.” Born in the Year of the Rabbit, according to the Chinese astrological...

Baby Moves - Honest and Balanced Original Figurative Abstract Textural Artwork
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Olympio, a prominent figurative abstract artist from Togo, creates artwork that is driven by an unapologetic sense of instinct. Olympio’s work is honest and palpable: exposed, raw, and direct. Through a bold use of color and texture, Olympio creates dynamic, multi-layered works that demand the viewer's attention. His work is an unfiltered manifestation of his soul. Bright, energetic marks encircle rough textures balanced by the peaceful compositions emanating from below the surface. This 42 inch high by 36 inch wide colorful mixed media painting is signed by Kodjovi Olympio on the back of the canvas. The many layers in his work further emphasize the texture and visceral nature of his canvases. The painting is wired and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping are available. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included with this original artwork. Olympio was born into a large family of eight children in Lomé, Togo, West Africa. He began his creating art by using building scraps to make sculptures. By the time he was in high school, he started to experiment with mixed media and collage. He later transitioned to acrylic and oil on canvas. In 2001, Olympio left his home in Africa to live in Paris. Olympio moved to the United States in 2003 and has continued to paint. His work has been exhibited at Art Basel Miami, where in 2018 he was ranked one of the Top 10 Artists by Red Dot Miami. He was also recently interviewed for France 2, TV5Monde, and the BBC. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally. A133 - Framed Original Abstract Red Coral Beige Painting
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Swiss-born artist Marco Schmidli creates large-scale minimalist paintings reminiscent of color field studies with a contemporary edge. Placing emphasis on process, he lets the mediums naturally manifest within his artwork. “An important aspect of my artwork is the removal of my own artistic hand. Instead of controlling and demanding the paint move and act a certain way, I let the paint naturally manifest and express its pure form/ true colors/ most natural movement.” Schmidli's work is known for its sensitive surfaces and subtle textures. He has developed specialized techniques for applying and layering color, giving depth to his large-scale paintings. This 11-inch high by 9-inch wide and 1.75-inch deep original artwork is an abstract composition in acrylic on wood. It is framed in a natural wood frame. Size and price include frame. It is signed and dated on the back. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Schmidli studied photography and fine art in Switzerland and Rome. He worked as a photographer and painter in Zurich and then in 1989 he moved to California. Schmidli has been creating large-scale artworks since. He has developed specialized techniques for applying and layering color. His artworks have been featured in the film and entertainment industry, such as fashion photography, celebrity portraits, music videos, films, editorials, and at red carpet events. Schmidli has set a new standard for large-scale contemporary abstract works in Los Angeles. His original paintings have appeared in highly respected magazine publications, such as Vogue, Flaunt, and Harper’s Bazaar. Saltwater Window, mixed media, 55 x 35 inches. Glass design
By Tracy Silva Barbosa
Located in New York, NY
Tracy Silva Barbosa works both in glass sculpture and mixed-media painting, the latter which she discovered after using acrylic in formal studies for her sculptures, developing a lasting interest in the medium. Barbosa found paint to be freeing; she studied sculpture and glass in college along with many other mediums, all of which translate through her paintings. Born in Massachusetts to Portuguese parents, Barbosa incorporates cultural contrasts into the layers of her subjects. She juxtaposes the traditional landscape with modern environments, often with composites of her own photography, and illustrates the passage of time in asymmetrical narratives inspired by Asian scroll paintings...
