Late 19th Century Maine Seascape
Located in Soquel, CA
Evocative seascape, circa 1900, by artist Constantin Alexandrovitch Westchiloff (1877-1945) Signed on bottom left corner and on verso. Titled "Maine" on verso. Presented in a contemporary giltwood frame. Image size: 9"H x 12"W. Framed size: 10.60"H x 14"W x 1"D Westchiloff is an American-Russian artist. He was born in Russia in 1877, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg; as an artist he traveled extensively in Europe and in the USA. He finally settled in New England, where he died in 1945. He is probably best-known for seascapes (particularly of the New England coastline), but was also well regarded for his landscapes, portraits and figures, and genre subjects. His work, especially after his travels in Europe and then in America, is closest to Impressionist in style. His favored medium was oil, which was well suited to his confident and strong technique. This in turn imbued his paintings of the rugged landscapes and seascapes of New England...

"Nature's Solitude"
Located in Scottsdale, AZ
Lauded by critics and collectors alike, the art of Gary Ernest Smith resonates in the mind and memory of contemporary America. Over the past years the artist’s one-man shows have attracted the attention of collectors from coast to coast. His three year exhibit, “Journey I Search of Lost Images” hung in 22 museums and institutes across the United States. In an exhibit curated by the Brooklyn Museum of Art, his work toured the New Orleans Contemporary Art Center, San Jose Museum of Art, the Palm Springs Desert Museum and many more prestigious art institutions. Although he must strictly limit the number of commissions he accepts, his mural size paintings are highly prized by corporate collectors. Gary Ernest Smith was born and raised in a relatively isolated farm community 25 miles northeast of Baker City, Oregon. His interests and intensity for painting began at an early age and progressed through college degrees, numerous commissions and awards to a full time pursuit of painting. The commission work that dominated the early years eventually stifled his creativity. Dissatisfaction with this career direction forced him to reach inward and search beyond popular style and accepted artistic norms to a personal vision. Following years of artistic training and experimentation, subject matter began to emerge based on the artist’s background of a rural life-style that celebrates the values of hard work and self-reliance. These aspects of Smith’s life came together and became the catalyst for his distinctive style. Living in the west, his work is primarily of that region, but it is not western in the traditional sense. Although it defies precise classification, the artist considers his style “minimal” and seeks to express the essence and simplicity of each subject. Whatever the focus might be, his work expresses the artistic elements of bold form and color. These two components become the vehicle that melds the style and subject into a symbolic visual language, expanding the artistic appeal beyond the west...

Woman's Dreaming
Located in Miami, FL
As one of the last generation to remember a childhood lived in the desert hunting and gathering with her family, Walangkura Napanangka's paintings recall the stories of country and the location of specific sites in her traditional homeland west of the salt lake of Karrkurutinjinya (Lake Macdonald). Born around 1946, at Tjitururrnga west of Kintore, in the remote and arid country between the Northern Territory and Western Australia, she lived with her father Rantji Tjapangati and mother Inyuwa Nampitjinpa and later, while still a teenager, travelled by foot with her family over the hundreds of kilometres from their remote desert home eventually joining Uta Uta Tjangala's group as they walked in to the settlements of Haasts Bluff and then Papunya. The lure of settlement life with its promise of plentiful food and water belied the harsh conversion they would make to an alien lifestyle with its many problems and unfamiliar demands. The upheaval however, was ameliorated to some degree by the proximity of her immediate family including her mother Inyuwa, adoptive father Tutuma Tjapangati, and sister Pirrmangka Napanangka (now deceased) all of whom became artists. Relocated to the community of Kintore in 1981 when the outstation movement began, Walangkura participated in the historic women's collaborative painting project (1994) that was initiated by the older women as a means of re-affirming their own spiritual and ancestral roots. It was a time of specifically female singing, ceremony and painting, away from the gaze of outsiders and men folk. The huge and colourful canvases that emerged from the women's camp were 'alive with the ritual excitement and narrative intensity of the occasion' (Johnson 2000: 197). Within a year, Papunya Tula Artists, now established at Kintore, had taken on many of these women as full-time artists, revitalising the company after the deaths of many of the original 'painting men'. While individual women forged their own stylistic trajectory, these paintings were immediately distinguishable from the men's more cerebral and symmetrical style. They radiated an exuberant and vibrant energy, the felt heart-beat of women's affinity to country and spirit. Walangkura's early works, created from 1996 onward, are characterized by masses of small markings and motifs covering large areas of canvas. Her favorite colour, a deep sandy orange predominates, accentuated against more somber blacks and reds and dusky greens or yellows. More recent works show a gestural quality though still tightly packed with an intensity of geometric line work representing sandhills. In a sense this provides a strong visual and contextual link to the men's linear style as exemplified by the works of George Tjungurrayi...

F30 - Geometric Abstract Shaped Painting Apricot Orange Navy Blue Stripes, 2022
Located in Kent, CT
In this contemporary painting in acrylic on linen mounted on a shaped panel, two vertical blocks of color in dark lapis blue and soft, mottled orange are luminous against thinner neutral sections of exposed linen. Signed, dated and titled on verso. Elizabeth Gourlay’s work is a meditation on color and form, a gradual yet progressive analysis leading to a complex vocabulary of shapes, color and line. Musical composition, emotional states and our collective subconscious resonate within bars, lines and blocks of color. The abstract forms emerge, layer and shift in precisely ordered, carefully composed rhythms. The artist contemplates the elements that make color in reduced forms come to life: size, flatness, relation to its edges, and how the presence of other colors affect how it is perceived. Gourlay draws inspiration from shapes found in everyday life and in her studio. The observed shapes either remain as they are or become simplified to their essential geometric elements. Subtleties in color, area, edge or orientation are the catalyst for emotive responses. Palette is minimized; the artist rarely uses a wide palette within one work. Rather, a broad range of colors are explored and then reduced. Gourlay investigates color properties: complementary or analogous color, value, saturation and color harmony vs. color anomaly. Elizabeth’s Gourlay’s work has been shown extensively throughout the United States. The artist was the recipient of numerous residencies, fellowships and awards including Artist in Residence at the studio of Sol LeWitt in Spoleto, Italy. Gourlay’s work has been written about in The New Criterion, Painters’ Table and Gorky’s Granddaughter, to name a few. Gourlay earned her MFA at Yale University School of Art, New Haven, CT, and her BA from Edinburgh...

Grapes and Jug - original realism still life painting - contemporary Art
Located in London, Chelsea
"Grapes & Jug" by Heidi Von Faber immerses the viewer in a world of soft light and elegant simplicity, capturing the essence of ripe, fresh grapes in a beautifully realistic composition. In this original still life, painted with acrylics on linen, a glass jug filled with a pale, translucent drink takes center stage. Inside the jug, a few grapes float serenely, their greenish-yellow hue mirrored by the drink itself. To the left of the jug, a small bunch of grapes rests on the rustic wooden surface, their forms subtly highlighted by a gentle light. The accompanying glass on the right, partially filled with the same liquid, completes the serene scene. The light source casts soft, natural highlights on the grapes and the glass surfaces, creating a delicate interplay between light and shadow. The deep black background contrasts dramatically with the light wood table, enhancing the scene's timelessness and purity. Heidi Von Faber’s attention to detail is evident in the precision of the reflections and the transparency of the glass, skillfully capturing the texture of the fruit and the coolness of the drink. Signed and framed, the painting exudes an aura of calm, inviting viewers to appreciate the quiet beauty of everyday objects. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, “Grapes & Jug” is available for acquisition at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea and online, offering a timeless celebration of natural simplicity captured in acrylics on linen. Artist Biography: Rebecca is a still life artist based in Tunbridge Wells, whose practice approaches subject matter with a classical technical style. Having attended Maidstone school of art Rebecca went on to enjoy a successful career in Television Set design. Rebecca began making a body of work as a full time artist in 2015 and is currently based in Langton Green where she produces artwork from her own studio. Rebecca also enjoys painting portraits and won the 2018 ‘The Artist’s People’s Choice Award’ with the Artist and Leisure painter magazines for her Portrait ‘Colin’. The artist has featured in Galleries and Exhibitions all over the UK including with the Society of Women Artists in London. Inspired by the Dutch masters, in both technique and lighting, she uses many glazed layers and favours ‘Chiaroscuro’ lighting with bold contrasts between dark and light. Working exclusively in oils, her props cupboard is brimming with hoarded silverware, glass, and china teacups which she uses to great effect in her work, capturing reflections and tranquility in the rendering of light as it passes through the translucent skin of fruit or glass, and porcelain. “My compositions are constructed in my mind’s eye before I begin hunting for my props and I am very much drawn to a combination of items that create an appealing scene or give a sense of nostalgia. I spend as long as I can on the composition and use a digital camera to help work out the best composition. I spend hours rooting around on ebay, antique shops – and sometimes even friends’ houses for things that I’m specifically looking for. I’ve built up quite a collection of pottery, glass and old silverware...

Denied Andy Warhol Pink Electric Chair Painting by Charles Lutz
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Denied Warhol Pink Electric Chair Painting by Charles Lutz Silkscreen and acrylic on linen with the Denied stamp of the Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board. 22 x 28" inches 2008 Lutz's 2007 ''Warhol Denied'' series gained international attention calling into question the importance of originality or lack thereof in the work of Andy Warhol. The authentication/denial process of the [[Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board]] was used to create value by submitting recreations of Warhol works for judgment with the full intention for the works to be formally marked "DENIED". The final product of the conceptual project being "officially denied" "Warhol" paintings authored by Lutz.
