In October 2023 Isabel won the Evelyn Williams Drawing Award at the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize. Known as the UK’s most prestigious annual open exhibition for drawing; part of the prize is a solo show at Hastings Contemporary, scheduled for 2024.

The Storm
It started with a butterfly flapping its wings, which caused an ant to drop a leaf it was carrying, the leaf fluttered and spun, it tickled the nose of a fox returning to its den, the fox sneezed which awoke a sleeping dog, the dog barked and the fox screamed, a baby in a house began to cry. The storm clouds gathered, threatening, grey, black, blue, like swollen bruises from the blows of life. Round and round they whirled, the butterfly flapping and flipping with them. People looked out of their windows and knew that the sky was falling on their heads. The swirling vortex opened and all life was sucked away, never to be seen again. All that was left was the tiny butterfly who shrugged its tiny shoulders and flapped its wings.
*Please note we are happy to ship this work rolled in an art tube. Whilst the work is on heavy duty art paper and mixed media, the artist is happy that the painting will be fine rolled in a tube. This is a more cost effective and environmentally sound method of shipping. Shipping via this method is free.

As we view this piece our imagination explodes and we wonder is this a painting of a party, a playground, a family dinner, an office meeting, a busy street? The answer is different for everyone.
This mixed media on paper which includes oil paint, spray paint, graphite, permanent marker, oil pastel, and pen uses vibrant reds, pinks, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, grays and blacks to offer an intense expression against the white space of the background. While most of the materials used are flat against the paper's surface we do see the dimensional texture of the oil paint, an occasional splatter, and brush strokes. Critics have described Carbonell's work as reminiscent of Cy Twombly, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Picasso and Miro. Suhas Roy 's mystic woman which he calls 'Radha', either Oil on canvas or soft colored pastel on Paper or board are a series of work where he sees an ethereal mystic godlike and innocent spirit in every woman he meets.
Style : He is one of the biggest and the most enduring names in the genre of Indian modern art. Often dubbed the father of female figurative forms. Radha Series and the Christ Series in soft pastel on paper and intense Oil on canvas paintings .Consequently, his recent body of works, "Drops of Silence", executed in oil, pastels and pen-and-ink etchings on backdrops in watercolours, are all studies of "mysterious slightly surreal nude women floating in a void". Roy's forte is Radhika - dark, enigmatic, beautiful Indian women with the slightest smile and ethereal in its quality .
