Serse creates drawings by erasure. He covers a sheet of paper with a dense layer of graphite, then ''draws'' on its surface with an eraser. Using photos as his point of departure, Serse renders mountains, bodies of water and trees from the shades of gray that emerge as he plies his eraser. The resulting image is mounted on aluminum. This image has a powerful presence because of the composition and the clarity of its realism. Serse was born in 1952 in San Polo di Piave. He lives and works in Trieste. The artist has produced over the years an extraordinary series of images that have been included in the book “Drawing”, edited by Phaidon Press. These also owed him the participation in significant national and international exhibitions such as: Parkview Museum in Beijing and Singapore (2018 - 2019); Palazzo del Governatore, Parma, Italy (2018); Centre Pompidou, Musée National d’Art Moderne, Paris, France (2013); Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rimini, Italy (2012); Musée des Beaux-Arts et d’archéologie, Besançon, France (2010); Palazzo Reale, Milan, Italy (2007); De Garage Cultuurcentrum, Mechelen, Belgium (2006); III Biennial of Valencia, Spain (2005); S.M.A.K., Gent, Belgium (2004); Rufino Tamayo Museum, Mexico City, Mexico (2002); Center for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci, Prato, Italy (2002); Kunstverein Augsburg , Augsburg, Germany (2000); Musée de Beaux Arts, Gent, Belgium (1999); Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation, Venice, Italy (1997). Amongst the institutions that hosted his most recent solo shows include: Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Saint-Etienne Métropole, Saint-Etienne, France (2014); Galleria Continua, San Gimignano, Italy (2015), Tan Guobin Museum, Changsha, China (2017) and Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba (2017 - 2018). Hilaire Hiler 1960 Abstract Structuralist Painting, New Mexico Modernist

By Hilaire Hiler

Located in Denver, CO

This original 1960 abstract painting by Hilaire Hiler (1898–1966) exemplifies his distinctive structuralist style and modernist vision. Created during his influential period in New Mexico, the artwork features soothing, harmonious tones of pink and blue, expertly layered to evoke a sense of calm and balance. Signed in the lower right corner, this mid-century modern piece measures 15 ½ x 18 ¾ inches framed, with an image size of 14 x 17 ½ inches. Hilaire Hiler’s work stands out for its intellectual rigor and visual harmony, blending abstraction with a structuralist approach that explores color, form, and rhythm. About the Artist: Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Hiler received extensive art training at the Rhode Island School of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the University of Paris. Between 1919 and 1934, he lived in Paris, working as a jazz pianist while engaging deeply with the European avant-garde. After returning to the U.S., Hiler painted WPA murals for San Francisco’s Aquatic Park...

Our Friendship Is Made of Being Awake 2 by Chris Brandell, Large Painting

Our Friendship Is Made of Being Awake 2 by Chris Brandell, Large Painting

By Chris Brandell

Located in Atlanta, GA

A striking 60 x 60 inch abstract painting by contemporary artist Chris Brandell. This mixed-media work balances raw energy with quiet restraint: a bold vertical field of white emerges against a warm neutral ground, layered with gestural charcoal marks, delicate line work, and inky splashes of black. Earthy rust tones and subtle hints of red provide unexpected intensity, drawing the eye across the canvas. Brandell’s work is celebrated for its poetic minimalism and ability to capture emotion through texture, negative space, and intentional mark-making. Our Friendship Is Made of Being Awake 2 conveys a sense of vulnerability and strength, making it a powerful focal point for modern interiors and discerning collectors of contemporary abstraction.
