Mountain Path is a 2020 landscape work by Maki Kuchida. This is a much sought-after landscape work by Maki, demonstrating her delicate painting skills with so much details in one work - the nature environment, trees with various forms and shapes, flowers, the river and the colorful coyotes as if all inside a mirage of the mountain. The mountain path leads you into a stage where the sky and the earth merge into one universe, the realm of the soul. Maki combines the Japanese landscape painting technique with the Chinese one thus her landscape work is unique in its own way. Linear momentum (Abstract painting) Pigmented beeswax, oil and Collage on wood panel. Unframed. This work was created and exhibited at the same time as the series (r) evolution, and was conceived using a similar process: many layers of encaustic are applied, then hand cut squares of Japanese paper which have been dipped in encaustic are mounted on the panel. Finally, each square is covered with clear encaustic medium, then painted with oil to create spatial depth. It was inspired by the artist’s ongoing interest in music and music theory. It is about pattern, rhythm, and intervals of notes as exemplified by the choice and placement of color. Adams has been intrigued by math and serial systems since her days of graduate school at New England Conservatory (Boston, Massachusetts) when John Cage was composer in residence at Harvard University. Tracey Adams is an American abstract painter and printmaker. Believing that the departed continue to hold influence over the lives of the living, many Chinese households honor their ancestors in private family rituals, invoking their spirits for long life, health, and prosperity. Commemorative portraits, which came into vogue in the late Ming and Qing dynasties, were commissioned specifically for ancestor worship and were believed to house the spirits of the deceased. When properly cared for, one's ancestors were believed to be a powerful source of honor, protection, and good luck. This pair of ancestor portraits was hand-painted in the 19th century and beautifully depicts a Qing-dynasty couple. While some ancestral portraits offer a more stylized representation of one's ancestors, this particular pair is painted with incredible realism and life-like expressions.
