Bryan Ingham (1936-1997) Upright Jug (1993-95) Pencil and oil on board 64 x 19 cm Provenance: Bohun Galleries, Paintings in Hospitals. Signed, titled and dated 1993-95 (on backboard). Bryan Ingham was born in Yorkshire. For his National Service he joined the RAF, and spent his time in Germany as an airman. After demobilisation, his final report included the statement that "Ingham is an artistic sort of airman." In his spare time he had started painting in oils, and by the time he left the RAF he had completed a large number of paintings. He studied at St Martin's School of Art in London, where he had the tuition of a fine post-war generation of teachers who helped him to hone his draughtsmanship and other skills, and he swiftly showed a capacity for painting that drew the attention of his tutors and peers. On graduating he was offered and accepted a post-graduate place at the Royal College of Art, where in his second year he was awarded a Royal Scholarship and was a contemporary of a number of now better-known names including David Hockney. Ingham applied for and received a Leverhulme travel award to explore the sites of the great Renaissance painters, and spent many happy months engaged in this expedition. He spent time at the English Art school...

Cupid in Flight Oil Painting Surreal Romantic Fantasy Cherub Angel Artwork Artist: Chacón Title: Cupid in Flight Date: 1995 Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 46 × 55 cm / 18.11 × 21.65 in Framing: Unframed Signature: Signed lower right and signed again verso “Chacón, Barna 95” Condition: Very good overall condition with vivid colors and stable pictorial surface. Minor signs of age consistent with time. Description Striking surreal-romantic oil painting depicting Cupid in full flight across a dreamlike celestial atmosphere, executed with remarkable technical precision and theatrical visual impact. The composition captures the mythological figure mid-air, bow drawn and ready to fire, suspended within a luminous cloudscape rendered in soft blues, mauves and iridescent tonal transitions. The artist combines classical iconography with a distinctly late-20th-century fantasy aesthetic, creating a work that feels simultaneously Baroque, cinematic and decorative. The painting possesses strong wall presence thanks to the dramatic movement of the figure, the polished modeling of the anatomy and the glowing atmospheric background. The wings, treated with warm reds and deep emerald tones, introduce a vibrant chromatic contrast that enhances the sensation of movement and fantasy. Executed in Barcelona in 1995, as confirmed on the reverse inscription (“Barna, 95”), the work reflects the revival of romantic and mythological imagery that became increasingly collectible in decorative art and figurative interiors during the late 20th century. Its refined execution and instantly recognizable subject make it especially appealing for collectors seeking: Mythological and allegorical paintings Romantic interior decoration Surreal and fantasy-inspired artworks Cherub and angel iconography Decorative Mediterranean figurative painting Hollywood Regency and eclectic interiors Statement pieces for luxury interiors The painting works particularly well in classic, maximalist or eclectic spaces, where its theatrical atmosphere creates the effect of a small airborne opera performed by a dangerously confident baby with a weapon. Renaissance mythology meets perfume-advertisement drama. 🪽🎯 Artistic Context / inspiración pictórica This work evokes elements associated with Romantic academic painting, Italian Baroque illusionism and late 20th-century fantasy realism. Its visual language recalls decorative mythological compositions inspired by artists such as François Boucher, Guido Reni and certain contemporary European fantasy painters focused on celestial allegory and idealized figurative imagery. The soft sfumato background and floating composition also connect with surreal dream imagery and decorative neo-baroque aesthetics popular in refined European interiors during the 1980s and 1990s. mythological painting, cupid painting...

"Crossroads A-67, " Pastel Landscape signed by Janet Richardson-Baughman

"Crossroads A-67, " Pastel Landscape signed by Janet Richardson-Baughman

By Janet Richardson-Baughman

Located in Milwaukee, WI

"Crossroads A-67" by Jan Richardson-Baughman is a pastel drawing on paper. It is signed in the lower right corner and titled in the lower left, both in pencil. The work is framed and matted with off-white acid-free mat board. The drawing depicts a landscape of what looks like a country road or field. Bright green grass populates the foreground with a puddle of blue water, while a barrier of brown separates the green from the yellow fields beyond. Red trees occupy the middle ground and background, while the cloudy sky is a soft shade of blue. Art size: 16" x 12" Framed size 29 3/4" x 26" A move to an eighty-acre farm in Western Michigan from Detroit suited Janet Richardson Baughman to a tee. She and her three siblings loved country life, and relished the many humorous adjustments to their new surroundings. The one-room schoolhouse she attended, for example, contrasted sharply to her earlier city school. Sports programs had been fairly sophisticated in the city. Rural sports consisted of her teacher piling everyone in her car, including the trunk, and then driving the children to another one-room schoolhouse for games. When Janet reached the sixth grade, a chapter in American history closed because all of the one-room schoolhouses were annexed by the nearest cities, but that unusual educational experience is something Janet fondly remembers. Growing up in a family that was very artistic, it is not surprising that Janet loved drawing. She and her brothers and sisters would make Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree and had ongoing art projects all year long. Her architect father was an artist in his free time. As the children have become adults, they are all involved in artistic endeavors from carving to sculpture. Janet's high school years were spent riding and showing her horses. "That was my life," she says. Living on the farm allowed her freedom to indulge her love of animals including the dogs that were so special to her. Active in 4H, Janet became an accomplished seamstress and an excellent cook. She took no art classes in high school although she sometimes helped her father with drafting. Starting college with the intention of majoring in speech and drama, Janet took an art class only because it was required. She found the art classes so appealing that she took one after another. Eventually, having taken every art class offered, the university had to design independent studies for her. With her beloved horses back on the farm, Janet discovered a new passion, and that was ceramics. First working as a waitress during college to earn income, Janet later became a Student Assistant and lived at the Ceramics Studio. As an assistant, she would make clay and glazes, fire the kiln, and assist the instructor however she could. At first, she had planned to become a high school teacher, but she was encouraged to earn her graduate degree and pursue her artistic endeavors, in addition to teaching. Janet graduated in 1975 with a BFA in Ceramics and Weaving from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Following her mentor's advice, she went to Indiana State University in Indiana for her graduate work where she studied under Dick Hay...

Mediterranean Hill Town Landscape Expressionist Oil Painting Catalan School art

By Valeri Farras

Located in Sitges, Barcelona

Mediterranean Hill Town Landscape Expressionist Oil Painting Catalan School Artist: Valeri Farràs (L’Estany, Barcelona, 1950) Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 60 × 73 cm (23.6 × 28.7 in) Signature: Signed lower right Framed: Unframed Condition: Good overall condition. Stable paint layer with visible impasto and fresh chromatic surface. No restorations observed. DESCRIPTION Expressive Mediterranean hill town landscape painted in oil on canvas by Catalan artist Valeri Farràs. The composition presents a luminous white village rising across the hillside, crowned by the vertical presence of a church tower and structured through layered architectural planes that guide the eye upward through the composition. In the foreground, a diagonal path creates spatial depth while dense green foliage introduces a vibrant chromatic counterpoint to the pale façades. Executed with energetic brushwork and visible impasto, the painting captures the atmospheric vibration of Mediterranean light through a refined palette dominated by blues, violets, warm creams, and fresh greens. The architecture is constructed through rapid chromatic touches rather than linear definition, reinforcing the expressive character of the composition. This work belongs to the tradition of Mediterranean lyrical expressionism, where landscape is interpreted emotionally through color, rhythm, and painterly materiality rather than strict topographical description. With its balanced format and luminous palette, the painting offers strong decorative presence and excellent suitability for modern interiors. ARTIST BIOGRAPHY Valeri Farràs (L’Estany, Barcelona, 1950) is a Catalan painter associated with contemporary Mediterranean lyrical expressionism. A largely self-directed artist, he developed a distinctive visual language based on expressive color relationships and spontaneous brushwork, focusing primarily on Mediterranean villages, hillside architecture, and natural environments. His paintings are held in private collections across Europe and reflect a consistent exploration of light, atmosphere, and emotional landscape interpretation within the Catalan pictorial tradition. ARTISTIC CONTEXT This painting can be placed within the broader lineage of Mediterranean expressionist landscape painting associated with artists such as Joaquim Mir, Henri Matisse, and Nicolas de Staël, where architecture and landscape dissolve into chromatic structure and atmospheric sensation. Like these painters, Farràs prioritizes color as the primary vehicle for spatial construction and emotional resonance. Beluga Whale (Delphinapterus leucas)

Beluga Whale (Delphinapterus leucas)

By Henry Horenstein

Located in New York, NY

Sepia-toned gelatin silver print Signed and numbered, verso 24 x 20 inches, sheet (Edition of 35) 39 x 26 inches, sheet (Edition of 15) This photograph is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. “Horenstein’s creatures are decontextualized. They appear without the backdrop of the natural landscape, outside even the artificial world of the zoo or aquarium, and devoid of their true color. As a consequence, the images are truly arresting; and in both a literal and a metaphorical sense, we see these animals as we have never seen them before. We notice details, and Horenstein focuses our vision on the unexpected: the foot of an elephant, the eye of an octopus, the hair on the back of a gibbon’s head, the pattern of feathers on a bird’s neck. He plays with scale: the rear end and tail of a rhinoceros occupy the entire picture frame. We see these as if through a magnifying glass. His pictures challenge us to look more closely, to ask questions and make connections. We think about form and function: the relationship between an elephant’s foot, a horse’s hoof, and our own toes. We ponder modes of sensing and communication: the signals that hold together a school of fish. Examining these photographs, we become scientists and discoverers. “In some respects, Horenstein’s work continues a centuries-old tradition of natural history illustration in the realm of photography. In natural history illustration, animals are often presented in shallow space with limited landscape, sometimes even against a blank page, in order to promote close examination and study of detail. But as much as these photographs promote scientific inquiry, they are more than scientific illustration. Animals were the subjects of our first art and our first metaphors; and freed from the constraints of space and time, many of Horenstein’s creatures remind us of the lost magical connection between the ‘animal world’ and our own. They are unsettling and they mesmerize. They transcend and transgress familiar boundaries between subject and object. Who is observing whom? The Komodo dragon looks at us with piercing eyes. We’re transfixed by the gaze of the harbor...
