About the artist:
Massimo Vitali was born in Como, Italy, in 1944.
He studied photography at the London College of Printing, in the 1970s initially working as a photojournalist, but at the beginning of the 80s a growing mistrust in the belief, that photography had an absolute capacity to reproduce the subtleties of reality, led to a change in his career path. He worked in cinematography for film and television before beginning a fine art practice in 1995.
Over the next two decades, Vitali’s large scale works would become recognizable for his highly detailed sociopolitical observations of the natural habitat of humankind at leisure.
His iconic series of beach panoramas, captured from a distance with an elevated large format camera platform, began in the light of drastic political changes in Italy.
Drawing inspiration from Renaissance and Old Flemish masters, in which the central space is fully exploited and the urban or natural landscape becomes the background, Vitali’s photographs grasp the viewer by capturing highly detailed observances of humanity’s coastal habitats in the bright light of summer.
Vitali’s work has been collected in six monographs: Beach and Disco, Natural Habitats, Landscapes With Figures, Swimming Pools, Short Stories and the just published Entering A New World.
Additionally, his work is represented in the world’s major museums, including the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Fond National Art Contemporaine in Paris, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris, the Fondation Cartier in Paris and the Museo Luigi Pecci in Prato.
Massimo Vitali lives and works in Lucca (Italy) and in Berlin (Germany).

Rare and bold Screen Print (Silk Screen) of Fisherman's Wharf 1957 by Gordon Cope (American, 1906-1999). Several boats are docked at Fisherman's Wharf, with buildings directly behind them. In the distance, the hills of San Francisco can be seen meeting a pale blue sky. Of particular note is the skillful representation of the reflections of the boats in the water, and the clever use of grey paper as negative space.

Gordon N. Cope (American, 1906-1999) was an educator and painter. Trained in Utah and France, he exhibited his landscape paintings and portraits in the United States and Europe, and he believed music was related to painting.
Cope was born on May 14, 1906, in Salt Lake City. He was trained by Utahn artists LeConte Stewart and Lawrence Squires, and at the Académie Julian in Paris, France in 1928. He also studied singing at the Opéra-Comique.
Cope taught art at Latter-day Saints University, and he served as the chair of its Department of Art in 1930–1931. He taught at the Mountain School of Art from 1932 to 1938, and he was the director of the Art Barn School in Salt Lake City in 1939–1941. Cope painted Utahn landscapes as well as a portrait of Henry H. Blood, who served as the seventh governor of Utah from 1933 to 1941. Cope exhibited his work in the United States and Europe. According to the Deseret News, Cope "felt that music and painting are closely interrelated, and that the study of one form may be used to complement the appreciation and understanding of the other."
Cope died on June 10, 1999, in San Francisco, California.
Gordon Nicholson Cope studied with well-known Utah artists A.B. Wright and LeConte Stewart, and became recognized as a major Utah artist of the Great Depression. Cope was born in Salt Lake City in 1906 and spent much of his life in Utah.
Cope gained much of his artistic training from diverse environments and influences. Following his training with the previously mentioned artists, Cope spent the next year, 1924, working with Lawrence Squires in Arizona. To expand his knowledge and training, Cope traveled to Europe, where he studied the "old masters" such as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. The Fine Art Societys relationship with Whistler began with the new etchings of the Thames he made in 1879, following a visit from Ernest Brown who had joined the staff of the gallery. The plate is on a large scale and shows the change in the artists approach to the Thames since the etchings he had made in Wapping and the docks in the summer of 1859. DuWayne Higgins was born om 1927 on St. Patrick's Day in Faith, South Dakota, a grandson of a homestead farmer and his dad a blacksmith, his mother a hairdresser. In 1935 he moved with his family to Los Angeles. After high school, DuWayne attended Santa Monica City College as an art major for two years. He knew he wanted to be an artist at an early age. He then studied painting with Boris Deautsch at Otis Art Institute, followed by enrolling at Chouinard Art Institute (now California Institute of the Arts) where he studied under the tutorship of Richard Haines and Rex Brandt, while developing his direct and robust style.

Inspired by the light and landscape of the West Coast, he renewed his passion for painting and was accepted for his first exhibition in the Festival Of Arts in Laguna Beach, California in 1988.
His paintings soon became recognizable for their exceptional use of light and color -- a style that he continues to develop with each new work. To quote the artist: “Light is the most important aspect of my work, offering the ultimate challenge and reward. To capture its elusive qualities on canvas offers great personal satisfaction, and it’s what I thrive on artistically.”
To seek inspiration, the artist travels extensively, working from photos and sketches that he uses for reference, then creates his original oils...
