Leslie Fry, Untitled (Cuffed 2), Pink Fantastical Sculpture Of Female Hand

Located in New York, NY

A 2023 recipient of the Vermont Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, Leslie Fry is represented in this show with fantastical sculptures of female hands, titled the “Cuffed” series. Tensely poised and mannered gestures, inspired by Parmigianino and Caravaggio, cascade into blooms and barnacles, creating a mesmerizing visual dissonance. This elision of romance and rigidity both draws attention to the limitations of the female form and liberates it from the constraints of reality. Leslie Fry’s works have been exhibited internationally at such venues as Kunsthaus in Hamburg, Zwitscher Machine Gallery in Berlin, Hangaram Art Museum in Seoul, Windspiel Galerie in Vienna, Couvent des Cordeliers in Paris, Artists Space and Wave Hill in New York, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum near Boston, and Centre des Arts Visuels in Montreal. Her public sculptures have been commissioned in New York, South Korea, Montreal, Florida, Wisconsin, and Vermont; public collections include Tufts University, Songchu International Sculpture Park, Freehand New York, Kohler Arts Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Fleming Museum of Art, Musée d’art de Joliette, and St. Petersburg, Florida’s Museum of Fine Arts. Fry’s M.F.A. is from Bard College, and her B.A. is from the University of Vermont, with a Foundation year at the Central School of Art in London. She currently lives and works in Winooski, VT. Artist Statement: #1 My hands reach, touch, and shape. Hands let go and receive; they try to hold things and to hold things together. Some of my images of hands are derived from Mannerist paintings by Parmigianino and Caravaggio, and are ink-washed onto vintage tablecloths...

Creuar la Porta Here some fragments for one of his latest exhibition catalogue “I think that a work of art should puzzle viewers, make them reflect on the meaning of life” Antoni Tàpies Moisés Gil’s sculptures can be described as philosophical and conceptual, as they encourage individuals to reflect and act in a never-ending existential struggle, in the face of the multiple situations by which they are affected in contemporary societies. Art is always a form of communication: communication with and between the materials employed by the artist, giving rise to an aesthetic visual balance able to convey feelings, emotions and ideas, all of which are essential to a nonconformist commitment and worldview. Moisés Gil puts his representations of individuals in sculptural structures to better indicate the place of humans in the world, the place of contemporary individuals in their different environments, sometimes hostile; they are naked men...

Untitled Contemporary Sculpture in Paint and Resin, 2010s, Unframed

By Guillaume Lachapelle

Located in Montreal, Quebec

Guillaume Lachapelle’s work combines the real and the imaginary to create miniature environments and scenarios that showcase connections between humans and their everyday worlds. In Extrapolations, Lachapelle extracts seemingly mundane mechanical objects from a typical cityscape – such as radiators, fire hydrants, and balconies – and manipulates their appearance by creating 3D printed models that visually oscillate between the magical and the monstrous. In some of his sculptures, Lachapelle uses photogrammetry – a method that scans a series of two-dimensional photographs or images to create three-dimensional models. While photogrammetry typically enables real-life objects to be accurately reproduced, the artist challenges this paradigm by tampering with the machine’s process, both by accepting the machine’s glitches and by triggering them. When scanning images, the results may not always be what is anticipated, however, for Lachapelle it is about welcoming the unknown. In several examples, he encourages the program to read screenshots of images and extrapolates what should be there, filling in blank data with added images and various shapes. The resulting sculptures are symmetrical and geometric, appearing uncannily familiar like human vertebrae, yet unfamiliar in fantastical abstracted forms. The sculptures merge between two different worlds, bridging human and machine through unexpected adaptations to everyday things. Extrapolations balances between this duality, ultimately reflecting on the increasing dependency humans have on technology in our everyday world. For Lachapelle, this is especially pertinent in a world where technology is continuously developing. The sculptures highlight the dynamic and everchanging relationship between humans and technology, making us question this reliance on technology. In this exhibition, Lachapelle also introduces the inclusion of human characters back into his art practice. He places people in unnatural and impossible exchanges with machines and technology. For instance, while in past exhibitions, he has usually tried to conceal the electronic components that make moving pieces...

Pigasus - Pink Pig Resin Sculpture

By Patrick Schumacher

Located in Miami, FL

In the Greek mythology, Pegasus was a handsome white winged horse. He was in charge by Zeus to bring thunderstorms and lightenings upon the Olympus Mount, known to be the Home of the Gods. In more recent times, Pigasus turned into a 145 pounds domestic pig, nominated for President in the 1960's by the Youth International Party the Yippies. This movement became popular for their stands against war and political establishment. Patrick Schumacher was inspired by this symbolic animal as a memorial of the Peace and Love era. Born in 1953, Patrick Schumacher is a German contemporary sculptor based in Nice, France. Classically trained in the foundation of Art in Strasbourg, France, he specialises in restoring art antiquities. As a result of his training, Schumacher acquired an extensive range of technical knowledge which he applies to a broad spectrum of materials.
