Most such posters rely on very plain silhouettes; this series - and we have many in this series - takes a much more arty approach to the task with shading and an interesting angle view. The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch, meaning "stork", was a small German liaison aircraft built by Fieseler before and during World War II. It was notable for its excellent short-takeoff-and-landing performance and low stall speed of 31 mph. The Storch was deployed in all European and North African theaters of World War II. In addition to its liaison function, a number were used to fly a battalion of Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland behind enemy lines during the invasion of Belgium. In 1943, the Storch played a role in Operation Eiche, the rescue of deposed Italian dictator Benito Mussolini from a boulder-strewn mountain-top near the Gran Sasso...

This plane was the most famous Japanese bomber of the war and the one produced in the largest quantity. The aircraft saw service from the first day of the war to the last, and was well known by the Allied codename "Betty". The Betty was designed at the request of the Japanese Navy, which wanted a land-based bomber with high speed and a long range. Mass production of the bomber began in 1940, and the first planes came off the assembly line in April 1941, becoming known for their outstanding range. The aircraft made its operational debut in the last phases of the war against China. When Japan and the United States went to war, the Betty had considerable operational experience behind it. Its experience and its long range were responsible for the plane's great success, particularly during the first year of war in the Pacific. The Mitsubishi bomber played a major role in the sinking of the British battleships Prince of Wales and Repulse on December 10, 1941. Soon, however, the Allied air forces learned to exploit its weaknesses (such as insufficient armour and unprotected fuel tanks...

The Stinson L-5 Sentinel was a World War II era liaison aircraft used by all branches of the U.S. military and by the British Royal Air Force. It was produced by the Stinson Aircraft Company. Along with the Stinson L-1 Vigilant, the L-5 was the only other American liaison aircraft of World War II that was purpose-built for military use and had no civilian counterpart. All other military liaison airplanes adopted during World War II were lightly modified "off-the-shelf" civilian models. Capable of operating from short unimproved airstrips, the L-5 "Sentinel" delivered personnel, critical intelligence and needed supplies to the front line troops. On return flights, wounded soldiers were often evacuated to rear area field hospitals...
