Solid Bronze 20th Century Nude Ballet Dancer 'Stepping Stones' by Benson Landes

By Benson Landes

Located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire

'Stepping Stones' by Benson Landes is a Solid Bronze 20th Century Nude Ballet Dancer - she is so light on her feet and beautifully elegant. For Benson Landes, sculpture was most definitely a passion. His oeuvre of cast bronzes is populated with ‘off duty’ ballet dancers, rather wistful women, often caught in moments of solitary repose. Such an obvious appreciation of the grace and elegance of the female form was, no doubt, heightened by 25 years spent in the couture business, which Benson entered at the age of 14. The sculptor admitted that his time as an apprentice at his father’s clothing...

"The Dreamer" Bronze sculpture of a rounded female figure sitting confidently

By Monica Wyatt

Located in Edgartown, MA

I first realized my love for visual storytelling when I began producing and directing television shows. Starting with the writer’s script, my palette was everything seen through the camera’s lens: actors, movement, light, and mood. Shot by shot, I wove together these images into two-dimensional dramas. I longed, however, to tell my own stories, to move beyond words and pictures, and to explore themes that ignited my imagination. My sculptures and assemblages became the three-dimensional stories I wanted to tell; stories about relationships, childhood, time passage, marriage, motherhood, and secrets never told. My sculpting process always begins with a tiny bit of clay to which I add more, never knowing how any piece will end. I don’t use models...

Aquarius - Original Etching by Albert Decaris - Mid 20th century

By Albert Decaris

Located in Roma, IT

Aquarius is a fine black and white original burin, realized by Albert Decaris. Signed on plate on lower- right margin. This beautiful print, representing the zodiacal sign of Aquarius with a very synthetic line, is in very good condition, except for some usual yellowing of the margin. Including a white cardboard passepartout, cm 31.8 x 24.6. Albert Decaris (1901 – 1988) Albert Decaris was a French artist, engraver, painter. At age 19, Decaris won the Concours de Rome, which was seen as the first award among young French artists at the time. Moreover he was elected Fellow of The French Académie des Beaux Arts in 1943. Decaris was the best and most notorious French engravers of the 20th century, with a strange mix of classicism and audacity. As reflected by columnist Yvan Christ, "Decaris' works take place beyond times and styles. They are made for duration." (L'Amateur d'Art, Paris, Feb 1988 Decaris was the first illustrator of luxury art books such as Le Chant de Mon Voyage vers la Grèce by Léon Cathlin, Combourg by Chateaubriand, Les Discours des Misères de ce Temps by Ronsard and Les Destinées by Alfred de Vigny. In the 1930s, Decaris began carving postal stamps, resulting in more than 500 such vignettes, for various postal services, notably French and African. At the same time Decaris was preparing large plates on a wide variety of subjects: careful technical representations of monuments and places of interest, scenes of history, real life or imaginary; scenes of mythology or imagination, verging on surrealism; mere caricatures, with a sense of humor. Some are collected in albums, such as The Apocalypse or The Zodiac. Decaris is also notable for being the last person to ever win an Olympic Gold Medal...
