Rebecca worked with renowned fashion photographers such as Richard Avedon, Bruce Weber, Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier and others. Rebecca is experienced in working with the major media, including international publications such as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Elle, The New York Times and Glamour, among others, as well as in television. She was featured in a national Diet Slice-Style television commercial that was shown during halftime at the 1987 Super Bowl. Rebecca also appeared in top fashion shows in New York City and Paris, France and in international advertising campaigns such as Revlon’s “The Most Unforgettable Women In The World” ads photographed by Richard Avedon. In 1991, Rebecca left a prestigious modeling career to return to her true creative passion. She began creating a series of beautiful and universally appealing fine bronze sculptures and many commissioned works. In 1998, she began oil painting and studied at the New York Academy of Art, while creating oil paintings depicting the classic nude, equine, inspirational themes and portrait commissions for select art collectors. Part of Daniela Astone's series of figures in different ethereal and surrealistic spaces. "The Kiss" brings to mind Gustav Klimt's famous 1908 painting of the same name but instead of an abstracted gold background, Astone creates a mysterious creature enveloping and suspending the figure in mid-air. The dark monster looks ominous until you notice the nude figure leaning into her partner, her hands lightly caressing or leaning on the the amorphous creature. Her body is relaxed and her eyes closed. As a classical artist who paints the nude figure everyday, Astone is masterful at depicting women at ease in their natural bodies rather than women self-conscious of their nudity—posing but fearful of exploitation at the same time—a theme in art history that continues today. PROVENANCE Private Collector, Seville, Spain José Villegas Cordero (Seville, August 26, 1844-Madrid, November 9, 1921) was a Spanish painter. He directed the Prado Museum between 1901 and 1918. Biography He was the brother of the painter Ricardo Villegas Cordero. He began his apprenticeship very young with José María Romero, with whom he remained for two years until entering the School of Fine Arts in Seville, where he was under the tutelage of Eduardo Cano. In 1860, when he was only 16 years old, he sold his work Little Philosophy for 2,000 reais at the Seville Exhibition. In 1867 he traveled to Madrid, where he entered Federico Madrazo's studio. There he established friendship with painters Eduardo Rosales and Fortuny. He went regularly to the Prado where he copied Velázquez, from whom he acquired spontaneity and the use of color for his technique. I love the geometry of the tiles, the lines on the bottom of the pool and the typography of the signs. Since my first Poolside exhibition in 2018, I have travelled to London, Paris, Manchester and Glasgow to add to my collection. Focusing on composition, carefully using blocks of colour to show interesting shape and proportion. The eye is drawn to the architecture, then the symmetry and reflections, and finally to the models, which feels more intimate.‘ Although my first collections were heavily inspired by my love of Wes Anderson's work, I’ve also been looking to other cinematic imagery from directors like Terrence Malick and Stanley Kubrick, while still keeping my signature style.’ We are so lucky to still have these beautiful old pools and maybe the photographs will remind people how lovely they are." - Soo Burnell ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Growing up surrounded by Edinburgh's historic beauty, it would be hard for any photographer not be inspired by its incredible buildings.
