Still Life - Oil on Table by Ernesto Alcide Campestrini - Mid-20th Century

Located in Roma, IT

Still Life is an artwork realized by Ernesto Alcide Campestrini (1897-1983). Oil on Table. cm 50x60; 55 x 66 cm with frame. Hand signed in the lower left margin. Good condition. Alcide Ernesto Campestrini was born in Milan, where the family had moved in 1897. After the first rudiments of art with his father, from 1914 he was a student at the Brera Academy in Milan, under the guidance of Ambrogio Antonio Alciati. In 1919 he resumed his painting studies in Brera, interrupted by enlistment. He concluded them in 1922, the year in which he obtained his teaching qualification. He lived in Milan and in 1923 he exhibited Smiles of other times at the Palazzo della Società per le Belle Arti and Permanent Exhibition: the so-called Brera Biennale, at the following one in 1925, presented with Ultime note and El disperados. In 1926 he exhibited Porta Volta, at the First Art Exhibition of Milanese Artists organized by the Meneghina family, the contemporary Self-Portrait is one of the first works by him that we know so far today. He devoted himself to still life, figure painting and the alpine landscape, the Trentino one in particular, with a technique linked to his father's school and to the late nineteenth-century tradition. He held several personal exhibitions in Milan. The Campestrini family spends their holidays in Valsugana several times, sometimes as guests of Emma Campestrini's relatives. The painter falls in love with Lake Caldonazzo, depicted several times in his canvases, such as in the 1949 painting...

Pommes et raisins - Impressionist Still Life Oil Painting by Jeanne Baudot

Located in Marlow, Buckinghamshire

Signed impressionist oil on canvas still life by French painter Jeanne Baudot. The work depicts a bowl filled with red and green apples and grapes. Signature: Signed upper left Dimensions: Framed: 33"x29" Unframed: 26"x22" Provenance: By direct descent from Jeanne Baudot to her godson Jean Griot Jeanne Baudot's father, Emile, was doctor to French artist Auguste Renoir's relatives when they lived in Louveciennes. In 1893, she met Auguste Renoir through her cousin Paul Gallimard, an art collector. Renoir travelled from his studio in Montmartre to meet the aspiring painter and give his opinion on her work. Renoir was so impressed with what he saw that soon she became his only pupil. Form 1897 to 1914, she lived at 4, Rue du Général Leclerc in Louveciennes, where Renoir had his workshop. She became the godmother of Auguste Renoir's second son, Jean Renoir, at the Saint-Pierre de Montmartre church, while Georges Durand-Ruel was the godfather. Throughout her life she stayed close to Jean Renoir, who became a film director. He wrote the preface of the exhibition catalogue of her retrospective in 1960 at Galerie Durand-Ruel. Auguste Renoir painted several portraits of Jeanne Baudot. They became great friends, accomplices and confidants. They painted side by side, in the studio of the painter, in the studio of Jeanne and outside, in the countryside, in Louveciennes, in the South and elsewhere, chatting cheerfully. He gave her advice, and shared his own concerns, such as those caused by his talks with the representatives of the State to make them accept the paintings bequeathed by Gustave Caillebotte. Maurice Denis painted Auguste Renoir and Miss Jeanne Baudot in 1906. Jeanne Baudot was a childhood friend of painter Julie Manet, the daughter of Berthe Morisot and Eugène Manet, and appears in many instances of Manet's diary. Her name was given to a street in Louveciennes. Lifetime Exhibitions: 1905, Paris, Salon d'Automne. 1906, Paris, Salon des indépendants. 1925, Paris, Salon des Tuileries. 1930, Paris, Galerie Dru from November to December 1930. 1950, Paris, Galerie Durand-Ruel, from April 28 to May 15, 1950. Ceramic Pitcher (Still Life Photograph of Lemons, Olives, Zucchini, & Chestnuts)

Ceramic Pitcher (Still Life Photograph of Lemons, Olives, Zucchini, & Chestnuts)

By David Halliday

Located in Hudson, NY

Contemporary color still life photograph of a ceramic pitcher with assorted fruits and vegetables Archival pigment print, ed. of 25 15 x 19.5 inches unframed Signed and editioned, verso In this series, Halliday captures the beauty of everyday life with a contemporary still life image of various objects and vegetation arranged on a wooden plank. The imagery calls to mind a Baroque still life, highlighting the beauty and simplicity found in every day objects. Here a sienna colored ceramic pitcher is captured besides an arrangement of yellow lemons, curly green zucchini, black olives, and brown nuts. The pop of white from the napkin in addition to the stark black background accentuates the simplistic color and shapes of the fruits and vegetables. About the Artist: David Halliday's photographs are about beauty, pure and simple. His primary subjects are carefully composed still lifes, portraits and landscapes which he shoots in black and white film with only natural light. He is a purist behind the lens, rarely manipulating his negatives in any way, and a master in the darkroom. His work has an ethereal quality that's translated not only through the subject, but also by the warm colors and sepia tones he uses in his printing. More about the work: A master of light, David Halliday produces lush and elegant images that are both classical and modern. Celebrated for his ‘purist’ eye, he poetically captures the nude male body in a selection of sepia-toned prints from 1996. Rarely revealing the model's face, Halliday prefers to focus on the natural drape of limbs, soft folds of flawless skin, and curvature of the spine. Overall, a stunningly intimate portrayal of the male form done with elegance and charm. Resume: Born 1958, Glen Cove, New York Lives in Schodack Landing, NY EDUCATION 1998 Penland School of Crafts, Penland, North Carolina 1988 The Maine Photographic Workshops, Rockport, Maine 1976-79 Syracuse University, New York 1974-76 Wooster School Community Art Center, Danbury, Connecticut SELECTED SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2013 Threadbare/New Photographs, Arthur Roger Galley, New Orleans, LA McMurtrey Gallery, Houston, TX 2012 The Past Still Present, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA 2010 Arthur Roger Gallery, New Orleans, LA Wessel+O’Connor Fine Art, Lambertville, NJ Julie Heller Gallery, Provincetown, MA Graficas Gallery, Nantucket, MA 2009 Culinary Delights, San Antonio Museum of Art, San Antonio, TX Two Decades: David Halliday, Carrie Haddad Photographs, Hudson, NY 2008 Arthur Roger Gallery, New Orleans, LA Still-Life, Stephen Cohen Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, NY Watermark Gallery, Houston TX Strange Fruit: David Halliday and Greg Kuharic...
