Still Life - Oil on Table by Ernesto Alcide Campestrini - Mid-20th Century

Located in Roma, IT

Still Life is an artwork realized by Ernesto Alcide Campestrini (1897-1983). Oil on Table. cm 50x60; 55 x 66 cm with frame. Hand signed in the lower left margin. Good condition. Alcide Ernesto Campestrini was born in Milan, where the family had moved in 1897. After the first rudiments of art with his father, from 1914 he was a student at the Brera Academy in Milan, under the guidance of Ambrogio Antonio Alciati. In 1919 he resumed his painting studies in Brera, interrupted by enlistment. He concluded them in 1922, the year in which he obtained his teaching qualification. He lived in Milan and in 1923 he exhibited Smiles of other times at the Palazzo della Società per le Belle Arti and Permanent Exhibition: the so-called Brera Biennale, at the following one in 1925, presented with Ultime note and El disperados. In 1926 he exhibited Porta Volta, at the First Art Exhibition of Milanese Artists organized by the Meneghina family, the contemporary Self-Portrait is one of the first works by him that we know so far today. He devoted himself to still life, figure painting and the alpine landscape, the Trentino one in particular, with a technique linked to his father's school and to the late nineteenth-century tradition. He held several personal exhibitions in Milan. The Campestrini family spends their holidays in Valsugana several times, sometimes as guests of Emma Campestrini's relatives. The painter falls in love with Lake Caldonazzo, depicted several times in his canvases, such as in the 1949 painting...

19th century English oil of still life of fruit, German Stein with silver lid

By CHARLES THOMAS BALE

Located in Woodbury, CT

Outstanding English 19th century still life of fruit, a German Stein with silver top in an interior. Charles Thomas Bale was born in Soho, London in 1849, the son of Thomas Bale, a basket maker. His older brother Thomas Charles Bale (1831-1899) was an artist and picture restorer. He lived with his family in St James, Westminster and although little is known about his education, he would have undoubtedly received encouragement and drawing tuition from his brother. Bale started exhibiting in 1866 at the Institute of British Artists, Suffolk Street. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1872, the same year he married Caroline Leathem. Together, they spent their married life in St Pancras. He specialized in still life paintings predominantly of fruit, but he frequently incorporated baskets, a homage to his family’s profession, as well as pottery, glass, and game. Bale’s work was influenced by the English still-life artists George Lance and William Duffield...

STILL LIFE WITH GRAPES is an original hand drawn, limited edition lithograph by the American artist Lowell Nesbitt (b.1933-1993). Printed on archival Arches paper, 100% acid free using hand lithography techniques. STILL LIFE WITH GRAPES is a modern fruit still life depicting two bunches of plump green and red grapes, and green pear displayed on an Southwest style geometric Aztec patterned textile as a background. STILL LIFE WITH GRAPES is an eye-appealing composition using vivid colors including warm red, black, gray, yellow gold, light green, purple, burgundy and white. Print size - 21.5 x 28.25 inches, unframed, excellent condition, very fine impression, hand signed in pencil by Lowell Nesbitt Edition size - 175, plus proofs Year published - 1978 Lowell Blair Nesbitt (October 4, 1933 - July 8, 1993) was an American painter, draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor. He studied at Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Nesbitt worked in abstraction until Robert Indiana suggested in the early 1960s that he explore realism in his paintings. As subjects for his work he favored studio interiors, articles of clothing, piles of shoes, his Rottweiler, the Neo-Classical facades of 19th century cast iron buildings, and Manhattan's bridges. He was also famous for his enormous paintings and prints of roses, lilies, irises, and other flowers. He served as the official artist for the NASA Apollo 9, and Apollo 13 space missions; in 1976 the United States Navy commissioned him to paint a mural in the administration building on Treasure Island spanning 26 feet x 251 feet, then the largest mural in the United States; and in 1980 the United States Postal Service honored Lowell Nesbitt by issuing four postage stamps depicting his paintings. His first solo exhibition was mounted at the Baltimore Museum of Art in 1958 and during his lifetime he had more than 130 solo exhibitions of his work at various galleries, museums, and universities, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Kent State University, the McNay Art Museum, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Burpee Art Museum, and the Tyler Gallery...
